The AC belt is a seperate belt, so it is easy to take it off and listen for noises. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> FWIW, mine never made any noise other than louder than normal engine tapping. With both belts off, revving up to around 3000rpms it sounds like the alternator is still spinning - kind of a high-pitched whine. Doesn't do it every time, maybe 50% of the time. Still no loss of oil pressure or any other indidcation of problems. Could a bent pushrod or a lifter produce this sound? Oil pump maybe? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
BenKey Posted January 3, 2005 Report Share Posted January 3, 2005 I think those things would sound much mechanical vs a whine, but I'm not all that sure of that. I just remembered that my old truck's alternator used to squeak every now and then. It would be worse if the truck sat for a few weeks without driving. Pulled the pulley off a few times and wd-40'd the shaft area and it would go away for a while. Not necessarily a suggestion. I did it, but not sure if it's that good to do.
