907 SSS
So my truck I just bought has a 4.3l v6, the automotive shop I go to told me I should just turbo this engine instead of getting. 6.0. I want to reach the 10 second range so what should I do? Build this engine or get the 6.0? What is more cost effective? Thanks!
canadianVRss
I don't think you'll reach 10s with either a boosted 4.3 or a NA 6.0. Now a boosted 6.0.... Yeah
907 SSS
I was thinking of going with a 6.0 built of course, with a 101mm turbo since I want something really big.
dieseltech320
depends on if money is a concern. if money isn't a concern then I wouldn't boost the v6 I would not doubt go with the 6.0. I'm not sure what kind of numbers have been reached with a boosted v6 but bigger is always better. in my opinion if your wanting to build a big bad a** drag vehicle don't hold back, go all the way. it may take a lil longer till your done cuz its not just throwing a turbo setup on the current engine, but 3 years later when your cruising down the road in that awesome ride you built you wont be with the thought in the back of your head "I should of built and boosted the 6.0 instead of this v6". that exact thought is what made me change my build into a 408 stroker. I bought a junkyard 6.0 and planned to just rebuild it, cam, intake, heads, and throw nitrous on it and have a play toy. change my mind for that exact thought and now have a way bigger engine. taking a lil longer but every day I look at it I don't regret it one min. just a thought maybe it will help
Downeast Johnny
The age old hot rodding axiom is "There is NO substitute for cubic inches". Go big or go home. However; study hard and learn what you need to budget to reach your goals. I, obviously, don't know what you've bought but reaching 10's is going to cost a bit. 907 SSS
Okay so will a built 6.0 be able to go well with the 101mm turbo?
dieseltech320
are you asking will a built and boosted 6.0 make it in the 10's? if so yes. with the right vehicle, right setup, and right driver no problem.
EXGM
Time to find a new shop. If they told you to boost a 4.3 they are idiots. The 4.3 isn't a terrible engine but they were prone to intake leaks and were thirsty as hell. I had many S trucks with that motor. I bought several with engine problems (all related to leaky intakes) that I flipped or drove for a while then sold.

poopnewton
If you plan on running a 101mm turbo and actually taking advantage of it you better budget for a Lsx or Lx Next block and 6 bolt heads.
