Connecting rod orientation

Recommended Posts

Long story short I bought an LQ4 out of a 3/4 ton and am rebuilding it using LQ9 rods and pistons to replace the motor in my SS.

My question is about the orientation of the connecting rods. I already know how the pistons are to be orientated. They have a front mark on them. But the connecting rods don't have a "rounded" side and a flat side. Both sides are machined flat. I have the GM service manual for the LQ4/LQ9 and it shows them having one rounded side. This is the only way that they show orientation.

If anyone has any input or ideas I'd appreciate it.

Also if it makes a difference they are GKN rods that are stock replacements for the LQ9.

Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks for the reply. I'm not planning on doing anything crazy with this one. I'm just building it back as close to stock LQ9 specs as I can. I just need to know what the orientation of the rods should be. Here are some pics of one of the rods. e6106381eb364dc9d0e14c2f898c95bd.jpg18ff258e9a4063606fca713290b958dc.jpgec5bcbf62a6f197db3d842f76294cd24.jpg8ae30569483e0a8f70e69be0ee11fc5b.jpg
