In the market for a new bbq / smoker

Sup guys? I'm sure there are many people here that love to bbq / smoke. I will be in the market soon for one seeing as how my grill now is rusted pretty bad.

I'm looking into an all in one bbq.... One that I can use propane, charcoal and smoke like this one from home depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Smoke-Hollow-Triple-Function-Propane-Gas-Charcoal-Grill-and-Smoker-1800CGS-DS/203223826?N=5yc1vZc5t5.

Has anyone ever used an all in one bbq like this? What are you guys using if not and what are ur recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I am an occasional smoker as I do not have as much time at home as I would like, but I still want to get something that is going to hold up well.

Also, has anyone used an infrared bbq? how do u like it? pros and cons? I know im asking for a lot... Just trying to make a good buy. Not 100%

stuck on buying the combo grill if buying separate ones is the way to go.

Hey Alex,

You would get a lot of versatility in that unit but the price is around the starting price for any one of the grills that it claims to be, (Talkin quality units here). I am in the "You get what you pay for" school, and would take a long hard look at that unit before buying.

I smoke on a 18 1/2 " Weber Smokey Mountain, http://www.amazon.com/Weber-721001-Smokey-Mountain-Charcoal/dp/B001I8ZTJ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391299277&sr=8-1&keywords=18+1%2F2+Weber+Smokey+Mountain+smoker

Grill on Weber 22 1/2" Kettle, http://www.amazon.com/Weber-741001-Silver-One-Touch-2-Inch/dp/B00004RALU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1391299395&sr=8-2&keywords=weber+kettle

GF has a gas grill that I use when there isn't time for the charcoal rig to get up to heat.

Smoking is time consuming. Butt for pulled pork takes close to 2 hours per pound, (close to that for a chuck roast for pulled beef). Rack of Spares take 5 to 6 hours. I smoke cheese for about 4 hours.

Got my eye on a Yoder stick burner for my next rig. http://www.yodersmokers.com/wichita-loaded.html

My guess is that you would wind up disappointed in the All in one rig because I don't think that they can build a quality rig that will do it all, for that kind of $$.

If you have time to study a little bit, here is a good site to check out. http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/

I haven't figured out how to add photos to post's, here yet but will try to get some smoke pics up.

Good luck on your hunt.

Here's a quick test to see if I'm smart enough to post pic's. These are ABT's, (Atomic Buffalo Turds), done on the kettle a couple years ago. Jalapeno' peppers stuffed with cream cheese & rub and little smokey's wrapped in bacon. Somebody let me know if these pic's are too big for the site. Don't know how you post thumbnails.

Damnit man... I just ate dinner and am hungry again!

Thanks for the info. I'll read up on some stuff in that forum. You're probably right about the all in one grill. Wish I had a bigger backyard to put all the grills in.

Gonna make a concrete slab on the side of the house for the grill this coming week. Maybe convincing the wife that I NEED 2 separate grills wont be such a bad thing.

The smoker I have now is shaped kinda like yours... What I dont like about it is how difficult it is to replenish the wood and charcoal. gotta take the whole thing apart basically.

The Yoder grill looks siiiiick!

My roommate bought a grill that looks very similar to what the OP posted. Maybe another model or something but definitely the same style and manufacturer. I'm not impressed with it... it's pretty cheap (in quality, I don't know what he paid) and is already rusting in Florida under a covered Lanai. I cooked on it tonight and I think you could do better for $400.
