03_SS_22
What is the best years I can look for at the salvage yards for an 80e? Year, make, and model. I know the1500HDs but just don't know what year to get. Any insight would be apreciated.

Quik
00+ are the ones you want to use as they were used with the LS motors, you could still use the older ones but they have a bell housing hole that isnt there. 1FASTBRICK
On the 4L80E, 99 was when they introduced the 12 o'clock position bolt hole for the LS engine. But there were some small changes made in 2001 that were considered running changes. They changed the lube holes in 1 of the shafts, there were some small changes to some of the other parts but I would have to get out the ATSG manual for the exact changes. Many people have used the 95-99 style case on the LS engines which do not have the 12 o'clock bolt hole position.
zippy
Try to find one from a 6.0L, but don't rule out the 85E. I would personally recomend an 03' to 07'. The older one's are fine also, but in pure stock form there were many updates the newer one's will have. When I used to work at the dealer I could have listed them, but don't remember all of it now.
