zachm89
A friend of mine is selling his 95 LT1 Camaro with just over 88k miles, black in color for a STEAL! Only thing wrong with the car is 3rd gear is slipping, otherwise it is in great shape inside and out. Im thinking about purchasing it as a DD so i can stop putting miles on my truck and start saving up for some big mods for this summer. What do yall think?? Only thing wrong with the car is 3rd gear is slipping, otherwise it is in great shape inside and out. Im thinking about purchasing it as a DD so i can stop putting miles on my truck and start saving up for some big mods for this summer. What do yall think?? I loved my 96 LT1 I had in college. One of the biggest issues with LT1's is the opti spark igintion. Ask him if its ever been changed and if it has how long. If its original or its been awhile plan on replacing it because IT WILL leave you stranded lol. Trust me. Its kind of a PITA too. Also the rear of the intake manifold is common for leaking oil. If you plan on installing longtube headers at some point, be prepared to have the worst experience in your life. They suck! Also ask him if the car is OBD I or OBD II diagnostics. 95 is the year the automotive world made the change from I to II, the early 95 models were obviously I and the later models were II. As for the transmission issue, I think you know of someone thats pretty good with trannys lol Heres a pic of mine Boy if that car could talk she could tell some stories LOL
zachm89
Haha, thank for the info Brian. I doubt the car will be getting long tubes. As far as mods go I'm going to try to limit myself to cai, tune, cat delete and muffler just for the sake of it will be my dd and I want to keep it close to stock. Appearance, that's a whole nother story, lol.

The factory "salad shooter" wheels are ugly.
T-Bag
My DD is a 95 Caprice 9C1 cop car with the LT1 and 4L60. I have had it since 03 and it now has 108K on it. It has been an excellent car, those LT1's are strong and will take a beating so that Camaro I'm sure would be a good purchase. Only thing I'd do is get that Opti-Spark changed out to be safe. T-Bag
This is an excellent vid, exactly how I did mine minus the bloody hand. The CAI, water pump, hoses, pulley, belt and wiring must all be removed to locate it. sdimedude
My parents have a 93 Z28 with 215,000 miles and this car has not been babyed at all. The car still pulls strong to this day. It is on it's 3rd optispark and has gone through multiple transmission mounts. Otherwise it is a great car.
chpspecial
there is a company that sells a retrofit kit that allows the use of the LS1 pcm and coil pack therefore you no longer the opti spark and you get the awsome tuneability of the LS1. Food for thought, the total conversion is about 800$ including the PCM and the coilpacks

Any link to the kit and/or a how to done on a z28? If it isnt too involved with crazy electrical and wiring work I might look into it for when the stock optispark craps out on me. When i get the car im just going to keep it how it is until something goes wrong, with the exception of a CAI and catback kit. Thanks for the info on that! T-Bag
The Opti-Sparks go bad due to moisture but 95 and up LTI's have a little vacuum line that keeps the Opti dry, if ain't broke, don't fix it.

Here you go, these guys have a kit for almost any GM vehicle and motor combination. It allows for the awsome tuneability of the LS1 to be used on any gen GM and even non GM engines. Once you do this conversion, any compatent tunner will be able to tune your new LS1 PCM power LT1 car. And you will be able to do just about any mod to it and still be able to tune it. Unlike the limited tuning that is available for the LT1 LT1 to LS1 PCM update
