JF-03-SS
Overheats? What is it running for temp? 160* t-stats not going to solve that, sounds like something else is going on.
Fireman31
There has to be a reason it is overheating like an inoperative water pump or low coolant level........
turboed ss
if ur truck is an 04 than u should have the manuel fan still... so i would be checking the water level then the water pump...

kisthisSS
Is there a way to check without pullin it...it hits 260+ in a few minutes of running...ya it's an 04 You can check the fan clutch by spinning the fan with your hand (with the engine off of course). It should have a slight drag to it. If it spins and keeps spinning it's bad. Also make sure the fan is moving at a good rate of speed with the engine running. I really don't think this is your problem though. It could be a number of things from your thermostat not opening at all to a head gasket issue. How many miles you have on the truck? chpspecial
if the water pump is good, it could indicate a plugged radiator

sisco5108
Just over 80k
kisthisSS
Just over 80k It's not very common but I wouldn't rule out head gaskets. Before you start throwing parts at it you can run down to NAPA and get a head gasket test kit. It comes with a turkey baster looking tube and you pour a blue fluid in it, remove your surge tank cap and place the tester in the hole where the cap goes and you suck a sample of the air out of the surge tank. If the tester picks up any traces of hydrocarbons (exhaust gases) in the coolant then the color of the fluid starts to change to a yellow-ish color. If the fluid color changes then you have a head gasket issue. Or you can always take it to a shop and at least have them diagnose it and just pay the diagnostic fee. It's sometimes more cost effective than wasting money on throwing part after part at it until it's fixed.
thomp62301
If you hit 260+ I don't think the overheating issue would be the only thing I would be worring about.

wody
i find it ironic that the 160º t-stat would have solved your problem, but not because it is a lower temp., but because your factory t-stat was bad.
