ACRONYM - a word formed from the initial letters or syllables taken from a group of words that form the name of a company, product, process, etc.

 

The following list contain the most commonly used acronyms on this site. For the new members, this may help you navigate through all of the jargon the Silverado SS community has grown accustomed to. Granted, there are millions of acronyms out there however these are the ones that pop up in conversation on this site most frequently. 1/8 – Eighth Mile (Drag Racing)

1/4 - Quarter Mile (Drag Racing)

ABS - Anti-Lock Brake System

AC - Air Conditioner

A/F, AFR - Air Fuel Ratio

AF – Air Filter

AFAIK- As Far As I Know

ASE – After Start Enrichment (tuning) or Automotive Service Excellence

ATF - Automatic Transmission Fluid

AWD - All Wheel Drive

BBC - Big Block Chevy engine

BBDC - Before Bottom Dead Center

BCM - Body Control Module

BDC - Bottom Dead Center

BOV - Blow Off Valve (turbo related)

BTDC - Before Top Dead Center

BTW - By The Way

CAI - Cold Air Induction / Intake

CAT – Catalytic Converter

CCLB - Crew Cab Long Bed Truck

CI, CID - Cubic Inches, Displacement (engine displacement)

CL – Closed Loop (tuning)

CR - Compression Ratio

DBW, FBW – Drive / Fly By Wire

DD - Daily Driver

DRL - Daytime Running Lights

DR's - Drag Radial Tires

DTC – Diagnostic Trouble Code

ECM - Engine Control Module

ECSB - Extended Cab Short Bed

ECT - Engine Coolant Temp

EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (emissions system)

EGT - Exhaust Gas Temperature

E/T - Elapsed Time (drag racing time measurement)

ETC - Electronic Throttle Control

FBW, DBW – Fly / Drive By Wire

FI - Forced Induction (turbo, supercharger) or Fuel Injected

FIPK - Fuel Injection Performance Kit (See K&N)

FMIC - Front Mounted Intercooler (turbo)

FMU - Fuel Management Unit

FPR - Fuel Pressure Regulator

FPSS - Fuel Pressure Safety Switch (nitrous)

FTW - For The Win

FTMFW – For The Mother F*ckin Win

FWD - Front Wheel Drive

FWIW - For What Its Worth

HD – Heavy Duty

HP - Horsepower

HPP3 - Hypertech Power Programmer 3

IAC - Idle Air Control (solenoid)

IAT - Intake Air Temperature (sensor)

IBTL - In Before the Lock

IC - Ignition Control Circuit or "I See"

IIRC - If I Remember Correctly

IMHO - In My Humble (honest) Opinion

K&N – Filter brand name

kPa – kiloPascals (tuning – air pressure value)

KR - Knock Retard (tuning)

LMAO - Laughing My A** Off (may have an "F" as LMFAO)

LOL - Laughing Out Loud

LQ4 - Iron block, LS1-based 6.0L truck engine (dished pistons)

LQ9 – Iron block, LS1-based 6.0L truck engine (flat top pistons) Silverado SS power plant

LS1 - Generation 3 GM smallblock V8 engine (introduced 1997)

LS2 - Generation 4 GM smallblock V8 engine (introduced 2005)

LS6 - Generation 3 GM smallblock V8 found in Corvette Z06 (introduced 2001)

LSA - Lobe Separation Angle (camshaft)

LT’s - Long Tube Headers

MAF - Mass Air Flow sensor

MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure (sensor)

MPH – Miles Per Hour

N/A - Naturally Aspirated (all-motor, no power adders)

N20 - Nitrous Oxide

NOS - Nitrous Oxide Systems (brand name)

NB O2 – Narrow Band Oxygen Sensor

NBS - New Body Style

NNBS – New New Body Style (the GMT9xx platform)

NVG – New Venture Gear (Silverado SS T-case is NVG-149)

O2 - Oxygen Sensor

OBD - On Board Diagnostics

OBS – Old Body Style

OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer

OL – Open Loop (tuning)

OP - Original Poster

ORY - Off Road Y-pipe

ORP - Off Road Pipe

OS – Operating System

PCM - Power train Control Module (your vehicles engine/tranny computer)

PCV - Positive Crankcase Ventilation (emissions system)

PE - Power Enrichment (tuning)

P/P, P&P - Ported And Polished

RCSB - Regular Cab Short Bed Truck

RCLB - Regular Cab Long Bed Truck

STFT, STRIM - Short Term Fuel Trim (tuning)

STOICH - Stoichiometric Ratio (tuning)

TBSS - Trail Blazer Super Sport

TAC - Throttle Actuator Control(er)

TB, TBODY - Throttle Body

TC - Torque Converter or Transfer Case

TCS - Traction Control System

TDC - Top Dead Center

TPS - Throttle Position Sensor

TQ – Torque

TM – Torque Management

TT - Twin Turbo

TTT - "To The Top"

VATS - Vehicle Anti-Theft System (the coded chip in your ignition key)

Ve - Volumetric Efficiency

VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor

WB O2 - Wide Band Oxygen Sensor (commonly called WB)

WOT - Wide Open Throttle

WTB - Want To Buy

WTF - What The F*ck

WTS – Want to Sell

WTT - Want to Trade
