How to paint engine covers?

Paint the color you want the raised part to be, make sure you have good build up with the paint, then paint whatever you want the rest of the covers to be over that. Wait to cure, sand the raised part just to get that first color layer off so the bottom color comes through, then clear coat.

Hi guys, I know the thread is a little old but I was thinking of painting some engine parts and such.  Only issue is I’m conflicted with color themes.  My truck’s exterior body paint is “cashmere” (goldish tan?).   I want to keep it that way but I am just lost as to what color to use in the engine bay.  Any suggestions or ideas?
