usmcchevyss
its a little of both a whine and moan. It sounds like the wheel is locked. I am going to call again today and take the truck back up there. I usually do all of my own work, but since this is warranty I let them do it. I am getting to the point with them that I will sucks up the $ and just do it myself, at least I know It will be fixed right and done right the first time. thanks for the input let you know how I make out. Rays B4U
I've about 1k on the new shaft, no knock as of yet, but my old one didn't start knocking until it had about 34k on it.

dawgbone
Mine is still good as well. I still don't understand how the OG one made that clunk...
jbaker
Not sure about mileage, but I'm over a month on the new one (sss is my dd) w/ no clunks...knock on wood.
Orion231
I thought perhaps I would luck out and my SS would not develop the dreaded clunk...at 22k miles it began clunking. I just took it into the dealer and it was replaced free under warranty. All I had to do was tell them the problem and my vehicles VIN number and wham, they had them in stock. If your '05 clunks take it in now before the warranty is up... Edited November 22, 2007 by Orion231 (see edit history)

TAR 71
I had the steering shaft replaced yesterday with only 24k on the truck, it's like driving a different truck now. Hopefully, the clunk won't come back. When I was at the dealership service dept, there were at least 4 other trucks there for the same problem or people coming in to see about getting it fixed. The dealership said they've had a ton of them in to be fixed. Edited November 23, 2007 by TAR 71 (see edit history)
