so you pretty much get it nice and lubed by giving it a good ol fashion wacking? :jester:



plain and simple.. whack it a few times to get rid of the clunking..lol

I do this to all of the 03+ chevy trucks that come in. I tell the customer that I fixed his clunking for free, and all of a sudden I have customers for life over a simple fix.

Built a big power Mustang. But had to buy a SS so I would have a reliable tow truck for when the car breaks.
READ BETWEEN THE LINES:

...fixed it...two months later came back. went in to the dealer. holly mother of pearl i was pissed. they told me I should of... put it this way I dont think they like me at the parts department now. :lol:

+1 for this fix! I did this a few days ago and it got rid of all my steering clunk and made the steering feel much more solid. Probably took me 7 minutes start to finish and I could probably do it again in 3. Thanks :cheers:

Wow, a huge thank you to the original poster for this piece of information.

I removed the bolt, and after some effort to free the stuck shaft, if finally moved towards the firewall freely, I did the pump thing, and poof, no more clunking. Even with the stuck shaft, still only took 5 min's.

Well Hell, I missed this the first time, I got my clunking fixed under warranty the first time but now it's coming back! time to get out the ole 15MM (when it warms up)

We all play with our shaft from time to time but Ive never had to do it to fix my shaft, lol.

Gm has a new coupler shaft that will fix the problem permantly. I got it in and no clunk till now. Sry dont have the partnumber.

Until the grease moves and then you have to do it again. Its just cheaper and worry free to go get the upgraded one!!!
