BAD2THEBONEBLACKSS
A couple of weeks ago I was under the front of my SSS and noticed there are 2 factory tow hooks bolted to the frame behind the front bumper . WTF? I dont know what purpose they serve because you cannot use them because you would tear the bumper cover all to hell if you tried to use them. Is my truck an oddball or does anyone else have them to?
AJSmyth
I have an aftermarket SS bumper on mine and ya the tow hooks are behind the bumper, makes alot of sense to me. lol. so that's why I had the body shop use velcro instead of double sided sticky tape! easy access...j/k Edited September 2, 2006 by AJSmyth (see edit history)

CoolBlueSS
All of the 03-04s have them as they are AWD, because they are built with a 4WD frame, they get all the 4WD hardware.

ccgoodwrench
The SS is just a regular 1500 ext cab 4X4 with a different motor, transfer case, and body cladding, and other things, that's why the tow hooks are their, I guess the factory dosen't what to waist time removing them
dcairns
They work great! You just need to do the free bumper mod Actually, I have heard they are used as tie-downs when shipping.
BAD2THEBONEBLACKSS
Well im glad im not the only one with the hooks. I might take them off and see what they will bring on Ebay!?
BRUTONMOTORSPORTZ
In the owners manual it talks about the SS having them. It states not to use them or you will damage the front bumper cover.
zippy
We used them on Matt's truck. They work very well if you remove the lower grille.
misterp
Well im glad im not the only one with the hooks. ... Silverado SS trucks are not completely finished when they roll off the GM assembly line (contrary to the other GM ext cab trucks) - they are sent to Techstar for final fitting of exterior body cladding. When Techstar receives the truck it is a fully outfitted Silverado, and all Silverados come with recovery hooks. It was just cheaper (labor) to leave the hooks alone when installing the front bumper cover. Mr. P.
BmanSS
if you notice the lower grill has push pins to remove it for use
