Silvsteve
VERY nice! Just found out, BTW, for those of you who don't have the V1 yet... If you call Valentine, you can ask for a "vacation model", that is, a detector that was sent back to the mfr w/in 30 days. They will sell these models, with all parts, updated software, and shipping for about $50 - $75 less than a "brand new one". Just found out from a buddy at work that got one for his ZO6, just FYI. Vacation Model. Nice name for it. Never thought about it but it is probably pretty popular to buy for vacation and return it afterwards.
zestos
I have a V-1 and it as awesome. Nice job on the instructions. However I hard wired mine to the fuse box on the floor(2000 Silverado). Much less of a job-just two spade connectors. There are powered studs there for cell phone hook ups. Very simple! Start the truck-it's on. Shut the truck off-it's off. isilopez
Just bought a Passport 8500 and you have saved my life. I ordered the hardwire for it too but did not know where to start. Thank for the pictorial. I will be printiing it right now.

shkreliman
Did You know the light switch would activate the radar detector? I did the same install with my Valentine one and found out by mistake that the switch turns on the power. And shuts down after you shut off the truck
7a7SS
Yeah, it's cool once you get used to it I thought I did something wrong at first. Seven
marc_w
Nice job! I wired mine to the fuse box next to the drivers door. I just found a wire that was on when I turned the key on, and off when it was off. I'm too forgetfull to remember to turn the detector on when I get in. I ran the power wire along the front of the headliner, and down the a-pilliar (it just snapps off). I removed one of the block-connectors, plucked out the wire, soldered to the metal clip, and reinstalled everything. Ground was a bolt on the front-side of the fuse-box compartment. a1cmaw
very nice job!! just fyi, opening the glove box will turn it on also. and what's kinda funny is if you will look at the dash after the radar detector has shut off and then hit the map light switch to turn on the detector, the cargo light comes on. kinda weird but everything seems to work fine. also i had my detector wired to outlet and it stayed on all the time and never ran down the battery. just another option for those who don't want a so involved project. Plwtwo
On the Valentine V1.....When I was still representing K40 and Escort, We took a K40, Escort, Valentine V1 and a Beltronics and tested them. Using Georgia State Patrol, Radar and Laser Guns. The K40 picked up radar a good minute before any of the others. And the K40 was the only one with a laser diffuser that worked continously, the others would bleed through with back to back pulses by the officers. The V1 was the second best detecting radar..then Escort. BTW, I had K40 pay a $512 speeding fine for me, with there warrenty against tickets. Thats makes me a little bias. I CORNER
A $512 speeding ticket is nothing compared to the jacked-up cost of insurance after you get the ticket. I have had no problems using the Valentine 1. I have 1 hard-wired in each of my 4 vehicles. Before that I used Escorts and I haven't had a ticket since 1979.
