4L80e + NVG149 Kit for Silverado SS's

Recommended Posts

I'm a little confused why you guys made an output shaft for the 4l80e. That means you have to pull the whole transmission apart to install the new output shaft correct? Seems that it would have been easier to make a new input gear for the transfer case. W2W has already done this so I know that’s possible. And an output shaft like this has already been made and has been available for while for this conversion. Also to make the rear cross brace mount, can't you just measure the 4l80 and your adapter and then move the mounting holes back however much longer the 4l80 setup is. Just a thought, I know setting one up would be better.

The reason is simple, because the output shaft for the 80e was made for a SyTy application, originally it was never intended for a Silverado SS application. There is/was no interchange parts for the BW4472 T-case thats in our application hence the need/desire for a different output shaft. Chances are anyhow if you go with a 4L80e that most people will buy an Ebay/Junkyard special and probably go through it anyhow to ensure contents of the transmission, only makes sense to throw in output shaft at that time anyhow.

The real 'magic' isnt in the output shaft, its in the adapter for the Transmission to Tcase, and getting it all to line up and be clocked correctly.. If you want to do different input drum then go ahead, I dont see the difference myself between tearing into a perfectly good t-case or used transmission to swap parts... As everyone is well aware of, theres always a different way to skin a cat as they say. I'd be willing to bet that the JSM option would have been ultimately ALOT cheaper than anything W2W has to offer and just as strong. If you feel comfortable drilling your frame for new holes then thats an option, some people have also elected to modify the stock crossmember as well (sort of a cut and paste affair), if that works for you, thats cool as well.. The intent was to offer a 'kit' of sorts, that would have included the Output shaft, Crossmember and adapter allowing a truly simple 'bolt-in' kit to the serious D-I-Y'er.

Hope this clears up any questions at this point

I was just thinking of addeding a small plate of the back of the stock cross member. Also looks like a premade gm trans to transfer case adapter can be used. Is yours custom made. At least thats how the one in this picture looks, and again W2W seems to be using a factory part. I have some pictures of that I can upload later.

I got one e-mail back, saying this stuff is now on the back burner. I offered up my truck to finalize everything, and I am still waiting.

Damn, I hope they take you up on that offer. Maybe email again and remind them that there is a market for this swap. :D

Ok I need to ask, could u take a 4l80e make an adapter plate that goes between the trans and the all wheel transfer case and weld a plate off the stock crossmember and brace it. I saw the crossmember done already. Now would u have to get a longer front driveshaft and a shorter rear, or would the stock one out of the ss work? I just got my 4l60 rebuilt for the 6th time, yes I said 6th time(3 stock trans and 3 racing trans from rock one) I would reallllllllly like to do the swap. I am willing to give my truck for mock up. I would like a deal or free parts for the first mockup truck being done. Let me no what u think. later,Ross

Well, still no avail. I sent another reminder e-mail, and I haven't heard a thing. Spring is almost here and once I can/will drive the SS again it's not going to be out of my sight. Concidering that it would be a 8-10 hour ride just to drop the truck off.
