It could be an old code stored I'm the computers memory, I would try clearing it and see if it comes back before doing anything else. The trick is that you have to drive it, not let it sit....

Sounds like a clogged catalytic converter, avoid going WOT until checking them out. The flashing CEL usually signifies a catalyst damaging random engine misfire. You are supposed to shut the truck down and pull over ASAP.

*Topic moved to correct section* You will find mixed opinions on these boards, but from my own experience a 60/65/70E can be built plenty strong and if tuned properly can support the power you are looking to make. Beefing up your 4L70E and backing it up with a good tune should be plenty to support your goals.

Should you change the timing set, probably, but is it necessary? No, but you should consider it on a higher mileage motor.
