i got a 04 silverado that had 5 speed i recently swapped it out with a 6 speed. problem now is i dont have any kind of take off because of the difference in gear ratios of transmissions. i have 20's and 3.73 gears now and i was wondering if anyone had some input on best pinion gear to put in. im thinking that 4,56's would probably be best. any suggestions?

theres a module under the dash that opens close vents that is operated off of vacuum. thats why sometimes when you first start up it takes a couple minutes for it to start blowing usually makes a noise under dash first. those modules are bad about going out and i think there is actually a recall on them. I beleive that that module you mentioned was probably what the dealer already replaced but if thats the case perhaps you might have a vacuum leak somewhere that keeping it from building up enough to open close vents.

IM RUNNING 3.73'S IN MY 04 RST WHICH USE TO HAVE A 5SPEED -IT ALSO HAS 20 IN WHEELS ON IT. THOSE WHEELS MAKES IT CLOSEWR TO A 3.08 OR 3.42 RATIO-WHEN I DID MY TRANS. SWAP TO A 6 SPEED- THE GEARS ARE HIGHER THAN MY ORIGINAL 5 SPEED. NOW I WILL HAVE TO CHANGE MY GEARS OUT TO 4.56'S TO OFFSET CHANGE IN TRANSMISSION AND THE 20 INCH RIMS IN ORDER FOR ME TO GET OUT OF HOLE. POINT IS RATIO IS IMPORTANT BUT YOU ALSO NEED TO CONSIDER THE FACT IF YOU ARE RUNNING OVERSIZED WHEELS YOU ARE ACTUALLY DROPPING THE RATIO TO A HIGHER GEAR THUS HURTIING TAKE OFF BUT SAVING ON GAS. SORRY TO GET OFF THE SUBJECT. ALSO SORRY ABOUT THE caps lock, other screen i use only operates with caps on.

they made a 6.2? ithe only 6.2 i remember was the diesel from late 80's i think. i thought the biggest v-8 chevy had in gas was the 8.1 which was done way with few years back.

oh yeah almost forgot the lower pulley has been changed too, i have complete list of mods and costs -left a few deatils out--just need to find them-

stock horse is right at 279hph. i beleive ive probably done almost everything that can be done to mine except for juice or blower. only thing i think i need to do to mine is a custome tune. mines had cam, heads milled .025 , titanium intake, rods, springs, colsd air intake superchip(soon to be changed) ceramic coated headers 2 1/2 inch stainles steel exhaust with custom h pipe and 12inch x pipes. trucks putting little over 400 horses under hood. i will have dyno numbers once i get custom tune.

sounds like a plan, only other thing i didnt mention when i swapped trans. is that with the 20 inch wheels im running even though i got the 3.73L gears i will have to swap gears out on rear end now--- im going with either the 4.10 or 4.56's in next few weeks--if your ever up in d/fw let mw know and we can get together

I originally had a 5 speed trans. but with the mods done to the 4.8 ( its got a few, thats not a cam.. im just missing a plug wire it just wasnt holding up and the shift was too sloppy and long so i bought a used tremec 6 speed out of a 02 firebird with 50 thousand miles. originally i was thinking that i was going to have to have drive shaft shortened and trans crossmember modified, cut new shifter location. But after some research i found out that a drive shaft from a automatic reg. cab truck was perfect length so i went out back ( did i mention that i run a salvage yard?) and sure enough perfect fit. Once i got six speed here with a few more measurements even rear trans. crossmember was direct bolt on. Only problem i had was pilot bearing not that it was a real problem. when we were installing it the bearing miked out same but its beveled enough so it wont fit. So i went bought new one for 02 ta and she went right in. even plugs for speedo and reverse were same. biggest decision i had to make was use front shifter location (which was same spot as my old one) or rear location (which would be close to middle and would involve cutting new hole in floor). That was a easy decision the old location would mean i would have to have that 4 foot long shifter or the new location i could use same shifter from the car( i have the b m shifter with even shorter throw but havent installed yet) so i chose to cut the new hole . i have custome console that i am remodifying to put back in shortly. i have some pics of truck originally when i bought it wrecked before trans swap and after but i cant figure out how to load em up.

sorry about the caps lock (have to have for other screen ) ill try to remember next time.. i'll post some pics if i ever get my truck cleaned up... i'll also show some pics of the recent 6-speed swap i did. everyone told me it would be a pain, guess they dont know what pain is. It was easy, almost too easy. Its actually nice to be able to say RST and people actually know what im talking about. The one i have has a brief but hard history, its only got 12 thousand miles but it also had the front end knocked off it too. YES its a salvage truck but you wouldnt know it unless i told you. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT AS TO WHAT WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE TO A 4.8 ENGINE TO GET AROUND 425-430 HORSES OUT OF IT?
