  1. Just put a set of taylor 409's on my truck last week with the cheap v power plugs and i'm happy with em.
  2. Mine has done it for about a year now when it gets real cold. Sometimes for about 5-10 minutes. Dealarship said it is normal when you start getting miles on these ls1 motors. On a fresh oil change mine don't do it until i get a few hundred miles on the oil. As soon as the motor reaches operating temp it stops. Sometimes it stops before that.
  3. Yeah that's what i was thinking about the mobile 1 or any synthetic oil. I would be burning through it like crazy. I will probably do what you said and bout 300 miles before the next oil change run some seafoam through it.
  4. No i didn't actually see the sludge myself and i was thinking maybe the guy that changed my oil was exagerating a little. It still scares me to think my engine is that dirty. The guy's over on pt.net suggested using seafoam then changing brands of oil. I've heard alot of good things about mobile 1 on here but with high mileage i don't know if that would be a good idea. Up till now the Havoline seemed to do just fine but the dude said he had to dig the sludge through the drain hole with a screw driver to let the oil drain out. That's pretty messed up.
  5. I took my truck to get thr oil changed today. It's an 04 5.3 with 110,000 miles and i use havoline 5w-30. Never went over 3,000 on an oil change and never abused. Guy that changed my oil comes and tells me i should think about changing my brand of oil because there was so much sludge in the oil pan when he took the drain plug out the oil would hardly come out. I've never had this happen before and now i'm thinking of switching to a synthetic. What do you all think. He said he had to take a screw driver to dislodge some of the shit to get the oil to drain. If this is true am i in for big trouble in the near future? I was thinking of running this oil about 1,000 miles and hope it cleans up a little then switch to mobile 1 but don't know about doin that with 110,000 miles
  6. My father in law has them on a 5.7 hemi and there not near as loud as the super 40 flows he had on before. They are pretty quiet actually. He's having super 44's put on next week.
  7. After removing the cats you guy's talk about turning off the rear 02's. Can this only be done with a custom tune? If so how much does it cost to do? Also what kind of damage can be caused by not deleting the rear 02"?
  8. 04 5.3 with 100'2xx and never had to do anything but regular maintenance. Never had any problems out of the transmission at all.
  9. Mine has the clicking and gargling sound. Guess mines really screwed up.
  10. I took it to the local gm dealer to have it looked at and they confirmed it to be a lifter knocking. They told me not to worry about it that some do it and some don't. They said i could have new lifters put in it and fix it but it would be fine without it. Said to change my oil and it may clean the lifters out. I only have 1000 miles on this oil and don't feel comfortable having my engine knocking when i start it up.
  11. I always use an ac delco filter. The service manager at gm said that's all i should use but he could be full of it. The knocking is pretty severe for the first 10 seconds or so then it gadually stops. Everyone has told me it is fine to drive it like that. It only does it the first time i start it of the day. If it sets for 6-8 hours it does it again. I was thinking of mabe getting the engine flushed but i could be wasting my time and money.
  12. Couple weeks ago i start my truck and i have a lfter knocking bad but it stops after about a minute and doesn't do it again till the next morning. Dealership tell's me to change my oil and use a quart of lucas that it sounds like a dirty lifter. Done that and had no trouble for 800 miles and yesterday it happened again and also this morning. Now the dealership tells me i just need to put new lifters in. My oil preasure has never got low and i use havoline 5w30. It has 93'000 miles on it. Changing the oil definatly helped it out but why is it doing it again. I've never went over 3'000 on an oil change and i baby my truck do death. What could be the problem?
  13. I didn't mean to make 2 posts i didn't think the other one worked out
  14. I'm gonna have to get my engine tore down to have new lifters put in and was thinking while it's all apart if i should go ahead and have a cam put in and later get a good set of heads. I can't afford both at the same time so could i do the cam now and heads later. If so what cam would you guy's suggest . Nothing to extreme i'm just looking for a little better performance. What heads do i need to be looking at also. I guess after doing this i would have to get a custom tune also. If you guy's could help me out i need to know what cam & heads i need to get how much will this run me and how much hp i could expect after i do it all. By the way it's an 04 5.3 auto 4x4.
