  1. I was hoping by now someone had figured out how to permanently turn off Traction Control. My '05 SS Silverado 2WD can't get out of it's own way if you forget to turn off the button after each ignition cycle. Doesn't look like anyone knows anymore about it now either....
  2. I already have the Corsa Sport cat back system (that's the way the SS should have come). I have a Comp Cam XER cam kit I'm about to install which will require a computer tune. So, I decided to bite the bullet a little harder and ordered a Vigilante torque converter and a Dynatech long tube system with their hiflow cats. The Corsa advertised bolt on (and it was). The Dynatech also advertises bolt on, so I figure the Dynatech tubes should bolt right up to the Corsa and still use the factory O2 sensors, etc. I actually ordered the headers from Jet-Hot Coatings because I wanted to make sure the coating was first class. Should have the headers in about two weeks. Then look out. Hope it's not too, too loud.
  3. Sure JL is considered to be a higher line and priced product. If you're going with a sub like that, then the whole factory system needs yanked and some kind of high dollar system be put together. Likewise, there's better stuff out there than JL like I've got in my other SS. But, I like the Bose in this truck and the MTX's keep up with it fine. It's kinda like putting a $20,000 pool in the backyard of a $50,000 house. You can do it. Just pointing out a good deal for someone looking to improve the stock Bose a Lot for not much money.
  4. Just thought I would pass along a great deal on a sub box loaded with two 10's. Go to www.crutchfield.com and look up part # 236CXP20R. It's an MTX Thunderform enclosure with two 10's. It's real nice thick molded and custom fit for the extended cab. All you'll need is a sub amp to complete. What makes this a deal is that it's a closeout red color for only $249 with free shipping. I got one for my SuperCrew a few years ago. And last month I got another one for my '05 SS. Spend $10 bucks on charcoal interior plastic paint and you cannot beat it. I got an MTX 400 watt sub amp off Ebay cheap. I think I've got $350 in the whole deal. Sounds great with the Bose. Get an amp that has a remote gain BTW. I called Crutchfield and they've only got one more of this part #. To buy the same thing in the charcoal color is $200 more. One more thing. When you look up that part #, it will say 1999-2001 ext. cab. Trust me, this works in later years. Cab and rear seat is the same clear up through '06. When I bought mine, they had three colors they were closing out. Now they've just got the one closeout left.
  5. I went with the McGaughey 2" spindles and they worked great on my '05 SS. There was an earlier design that resulted in an increase in turning radius, but that was fixed in the later design. My only problem with BelTech is that the tech I called at the company recommended the Tkey kit. That is definitely not the way to go IMO. I should have read deeper into the threads. Now the truck is Soooo much better on the drop spindles. Either brand should work fine.
  6. So, what's the recommendation? A Transgo or a Superior kit or what? Stock SS horsepower. Just lacks good hard kick down and firm shifts. ??
  7. We put the factory torsion keys back in and put the McGaughey 2"drop spindles on. And it rides great again. Looks great too. Did a good bolt check on the rear shackles and shocks and got rid of the rattle somehow. Couldn't be any happier with it. 2/2 drop and nice ride with the spindles instead of keys.
  8. I've got the Baer stuff ordered and on the way. Getting it through Speedtek in Fort Worth. Reuben @ Speedtek had also recommended the Baer adjustable proportioning valve for about $40 bucks more. So, the 14" fronts and rears are on the way. I'm going to get them to do the install since they do a lot of Baer brake stuff. Let you know 'bout the outcome.
  9. Shoot! I knew what I was going to do until Misterp's post. I was going with the Baer Alumisport fronts and GT rears. The kits match in appearance and size and it is what Baer recommended. And since the truck is an occassional driver and it's mostly about looks, I didn't want to spend the bucks for Eradispeed fronts which don't match the rear GT kit anyway. The truck stops fine like it is. Maybe I'll just beat a trash can lid flat. Call it a fake rear rotor and throw it behind the wheel.
  10. I've got an '05 SS with rear drum brakes. I looked through pages of threads to see if a drum to disc conversion has been discussed. Probably has, but I can't find it. So, what are my options guys? I knew when I bought this truck that I'd be tackling a disc conversion soon. Can't believe Chevy would slap the drums on instead of fixing some problem they were having with the parking brake I hear. SSBC has already told me they can't help. Haven't heard back from Baer and a couple of others. What I'm after is a kit with big plated rotors and calipers, front and rear. But, the rear drums have to go. Any help appreciated.
  11. I would definitely recommend the drop spindles over the torsion key kit. Like an earlier post said, the torsion key kit "preloads" the front shocks. Your ride starts harsher and gets worse from there (or better if you like the harsher ride). I was dissappointed with my ride as soon as I pulled out of the shop driveway. Couldn't get the McGaughey spindles and my stock keys put on fast enough.
  12. I've got the same problem with my '05 SS Chevy. I've got the Beltech 2/2 drop. Shackles, shocks, and keys. I could tell my nice ride was gone as soon as I pulled out of the shop. And it rattles just like a loose spare. I've since bought McGaughey spindles to put on, buy I'd like to get ride of the rattle before I change anything else. Any help appreciated.
  13. I just bought a Corsa cat-back exhaust #14279 off Ebay. And they wouldn't take the 10% coupon (max value $25) even though the coupon is supposed to be good on any purchase paid for with PayPal. Bought from ReplacementAutoParts. They've got the best price, but flat refused to accept the coupon even after a few emails. Sucks.
