  1. Thanks AutoGuy! That sounds like an awesome idea. That is exactly what I needed. I will check their website again and search eBay and talk with my dealer to find out cost and installation. GREAT INFO!
  2. All good things to know. Man.... I'm really learning a lot in here! I'm no gear head by any means so some of this goes right over my head but I am starting to understand more and more. I love SILVERADOSS.COM!
  3. JF, I like that Flowmaster setup. What is the part number for that system on Flowmasters website? I like the dual tips, looks cool especially on the side. Is there any advantage to exhausting before the rear axle or after it? The stock is after the axle but I noticed that most of the Flowmasters are before. Having it before, does it cause any additional dirt accumulation or anything on the wheels/rims from the exhaust?
  4. I've read a few good things about flowmaster as well. Question: Would replacing just the muffler on an otherwise stock exhaust system still provide improved sound and some performance gains? Is the factory piping really restrictive on air flow or is most of the restriction from the factory muffler? What are the exact muffler part numbers for the either the MagnaFlow, Flowmaster, or other brand mufflers for an 06 SSS?
  5. Good point... I was actually thinking about this after looking at the MagnaFlow site and such. I wondered if a muffler only replacement would help out any in terms of both sound and performance. I may check into this. Can you buy just the MagnaFlow mufflers? or do you have to get the complete system? Or do you (anybody) recommend a specific muffler? Thanks for all the great suggestions!
  6. What have you guy's found to be a reasonable price for the MagnaFlow systems? I still want to keep the original side exit exhaust. I found MagnaFlow system 15838 on eBay for around $550. Is this a reason price? Also, is the MagnaFlow REALLY loud? That is my biggest concern. I just want some nice grumbling but nothing really annoyingly loud. Thanks for your opinions!
  7. Cool... I might just have to consider that. Nothing against PCM4LESS but an in person tune would be great, especially if I can drive it around for a little bit afterward to make sure I like any changes. Which 'burb you in? I'm in Sterling, IL so I'm about 2 hours from Aurora.
  8. As with any of the mods available for our wonderful trucks (or any vehicle for that matter) I am finding myself with more and more questions the more I read the forums! I have a stock exhaust on my 06 SSS. The only real performance mod I have is a K&N CAI. I am looking at getting a tune but am thinking that an exhaust system may be best to get first and then get the tune. What my question is though is what exhaust is best for someone that is looking for a somewhat deeper and throaty growl but does not want to have the really loud reverbarating, rattle the neighbor's windows, type of exhaust. Don't get me wrong, that is really cool but I have to keep my truck somewhat domestic so that my fiance won't mind when I come in and out of the driveway! I'd like something more noticeable than the stock system but nothing that will get me pulled over. It would also be nice to not have much additional cab noise if possible. I have read that the Corsa exhaust systems are awesome but are really loud. Almost the same for MagnaFlow. I have read that some owners have the GM PP cat-backs but didn't really get a sense as to how loud they are. Any suggestions for someone just looking for a nicer sounding exhaust that will attract some extra attention without being too obnoxious? Thanks everybody!
  9. Other than the performance settings, what other information is stored on the PCM? I had read in another post that when ever they changed the PCM (for taking truck in for service work etc) that it reset the oil change statistics for oil life remaining. Is there any other data like this that is stored in the unit that would be lost or reset? I'm thinking of driver preferences for mirrors, easy exit seats, seat memory, outside lamps staying on for X seconds, horn honk for locking, etc? Thanks!
  10. I think I have you beat brobradh77.... got my truck Feb 13, 2006 and it just turned over 4000 miles last week! Don't want to drive it too much you know! It's gonna be a classic! Good to hear I'm not the only one that doesn't put the big miles on vehicles.
  11. That sounds cool. I will have to do that. My truck's my baby (as I am sure most of you can relate to) and I just don't want to do the wrong thing with it! Thanks!
  12. I am very interested in getting a PCM tuning from all of the user postings I have seen on here. I am no gear head by any means and I don't race my SSS. I just want to increase performance a bit and get more bang for my buck. I have looked at the PCM4LESS website and was examining the order form. Most of the items on the form I was thinking should be left at LEAVE AS IS since I have mostly stock equipment. The only real performance add on I have is a CAI. With all of these options being left as LEAVE AS IS are there still modifications that Bryan makes that will help out? Or am I really only paying to have one or two settings reprogrammed? I'm not trying to recommend or sell PCMFORLESS, I have just seen many recommendations for his service. I am also looking into the other services that other users have talked about. His site was the only one that I saw with the online order form with all the questions on it in terms of what can be tuned so I used it as my example. Also, from your guy's experience, what do you suggest doing in terms of doing a PCM exchange or should I get another PCM? Will this tuning void the manufacturer warranty? Should I replace the stock PCM whenver I take my truck in to be worked on? Any problems with getting a modified PCM and it stop working for some reason? Thanks for your help!
  13. Doe's Wester's have a website? I am in the same boat here... few performance mods aside from the CAI. I just want to get the easy things out of the way first or the Mrs. will kill me for spending more on the truck than I do on her! I also want to get a separate PCM for my tune and keep the factory. Do others agree? Or is it no big deal to just send in the factory PCM and take the tuned one? I figured if I had the factory one I could re-install it later for warranty work or in case the tuned PCM doesn't work correctly. Anyone have any problems with their tuned PCM and needing to revert back? Sorry, just a little paranoid. I can't be without my truck!
  14. Thanks for the input BOB47! I just checked on the Extang and it is actually almost $100 cheaper! That is a nice looking unit and it has a lifetime warranty as well. I think I'm going with that! Thanks again!
  15. I was thinking the same thing... but I do sort of like the black top with the red. Truxedo does make colors but the red is a burgundy color. I am going to look at the Extang RT. Rightnow AutoAnything has 10% off all purchases so I could get the Truxedo for $395 shipped. Best deal on it I have found so far. Thanks for the feedback guys!
