  1. There are several things that make it pricy. First, it has the Hypertech name on it ... big bucks there. Second, is the fact that it's locked in to just the vehicle you purchase it for. So, you have to consider your investment. Do you want to spend a grand on a blue and white touchscreen that will be dedicated to ONLY your vehicle forever? What if you sell your SS ... and say ... get a Titan. You'll have to get a whole new HyperPac ... presuming they make one for Nissans, which I don't think they do. I also went to their website and it appears that they don't support the Silverado SS motor. I did a lookup and could only find the 6.0L (U) that comes in the 2500 HD for '03, '04, '05, and '06. Not the VIN (N) SS Motor. I was considering getting a HyperPac when I first saw it. It looked cool, and it also looked like a great investment. Then, I started seeing all of the little things I COULDN'T do with it. I'm shifting my investment towards and in-car PC instead. This way, I'll have a touchscreen I can run any Windows-based program on any time I like. I can watch DVD's while I drive (Hope no cops are reading this) I can run MS Office on it, I can have internet wherever I go, and I'll spend maybe just $400 more than a HyperPac. It'll be in full color, and if I want to move it to another vehicle, there's nothing stopping me, it'll still work. And then, to be able to add performance software that's in full color, has touchscreen nav., and has cool gauges, graphs, and charts for only $228 instead of $900 ... I'm there!
  2. I agree with 11H. If you don't know what you're doing, especially with tuning, seek professional help. I mean, I could help you with probably ask me any computer question you might have, and if I don't know the answer right away, I know where I can get the answer ... Ask me to adjust a fuel curve ... ? No friggin' way ... I have no idea what I'm doing there ... BUT, I have been taking some automotive classes ... so ... slowly I'm understanding things ... Right on 11H ... knowledge is power. If you have it, use it. If you don't have it, don't pretend.
  3. It's hard to know for sure w/o a wiring diagram, ohm meter, and prolly about 3-4 hours of dedicated time. ~OR~ A Scan Tool, and about 10 minutes of time. Reflashing the IPC module is one of the easier approaches to this situation, I think. Especially knowing how many changes GM makes to their software in just one year ... it's astounding ...
  4. I guess I'm not understanding the concept of a 'group buy' ... If several people on here all pitched in for 1 cowl hood, then who gets it for their truck? Does everyone share the hood?
  5. Oh ... almost forgot ... our software also has an interface into MS Outlook ... so you can set calendar alerts for when your truck needs routine service.
  6. Dude ... for what you get it is rather pricey ... We have one better than the Hyperpac, but it's designed to run on any Windows 2000/XP computer system (Mounted in-car with a touchscreen, or a laptop), and you don't get locked in to one vehicle with our software. You can get the 'real-time' generic emissions-level diagnostic data on any OBD2 vehicle you connect it to. (Which is the same stuff Hyperpac is pitching) You also get a cool performance tool ... 0-60 (Or 70,80,90,100,etc), 60-0, 1/4 mile, HP/Torque graph analysis, etc ... We launch ours beginning of 2007 ... and it should list for $129. For an additional $99, we'll also provide a Powertrain Scan Tool with manufacturer-level diagnostic information (More than just OBD2 Generic) for GM vehicles. removed non-vendor link
  7. Sorry, dude. I'd be flamin' if some retarded driver stopped short in front of me. What's also good ... is that (I presume) your airbags didn't deploy ... That would have been a big ticket too ... Get 'er fixed up soon!
  8. Yes, it would be $200 for the set of 4. I'll try to weigh them over the weekend & get you a shipping quote. Thanks!
  9. Can anyone help me with some info. on this?
  10. Have someone with a scan tool hook up and get info. from the IPC module. There may not be anything wrong with the Instru. Panel, rather a speed sensor. Check the ABS computer too. That'll flag a bad sensor.
  11. I just got some new sneakers on my SS and would like to sell my old Goodyear LS's. They have about 3-5K or more miles left on them, I wanted new rubber because we get so much rain here in NC. These would be great for someone with 2WD. I can't use them because I have AWD ... hard to let the smoke out of these tires w/ AWD. Would like to see $50 for each tire ... might consider putting on eBay if no one here wants them. Would be good to pick them up locally ... they're heavy & would be expensive to ship. Can also post pics upon request ... Let me know ... thanks guys!
  12. Mind if I link to that on my MySpace page? That is one thing I miss about Pennsylvania ... having fun in the snow ...
  13. I liked them all, but I agree ... deep tone is the way to go. I really like the setup that was on mine when I bought it ... which is a custom job, true dual the whole way back w/ Z28 tips. Not quite sure what mufflers are on it, because there's no stamp ... but I am thinking either flowmasters or dynomax.
  14. Select the layer that your image is on. Then, under the 'Edit' menu, choose 'Transform', and then 'Scale'. This will place a box around the image with drag points. You can manipulate the image this way.
  15. I think everyone here has given great advice. I started out as you did, my friend. I was highly interested in automotive electronics when I was in high school & wasn't sure IF I even wanted to try to pursue it as a career. So, with some dedication, I decided to skip my scholarship to Drexel for Chem. Engineering and self educate. Kept the education bill down ... all I bought were books. During my self-education (computers and electronics systems), a friend of mine hired me into his company & sat me down with engineers to develop diagnostic systems for cars. I did this for 4.75 years, and then tried getting into manufacturing equipment, and hated it. Eventually, I found myself back with the diagnostic organization, and I am very happy doing what I do. If I were you, I would think about what you loved to do. Something that you would enjoy doing as your profession every day for the rest of your life. Once you are comfortable with your decision, everything else will naturally fall in to place, presuming that you go out and make it all happen. If you have a passion for automobiles, definitely consider UTI, or one of it's siter schools like NASCAR Tech. here in Mooresville, NC. These are the places where you will get hands-on technology training on cars of today and tomorrow. If you get into this, I am pretty sure they have a great HYBRID program as well. And, if you ask any technician, HYBRIDS are a whole different beast compared to internal combustion vehicles. Good Luck!
  16. I'll have the IPC Module flashed. We have a United Radio near by that rebuilds them. I wonder if they can do it or do I need to take it to a dealer. I haven't had much luck with the dealers in this area. I have a Snap On Modus at the body shop and repair shop I own. I'll have my son take a look and see what happens. Either way, I'll have to take it someplace that has the software. Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Make sure that they put the correct VIN in the module when they reprogram it. It should match the PCM VIN and Body module VIN. Or, you might find yourself with a no-start issue. Gotta love Theftlock ...
  17. Looks just like mine. Question ... were the mud flaps on it when you traded it? Are those GM flaps?
  18. PCM stands for 'Powertrain Control Module' - it's a computer that handles all the engine management and transmission functions based on a slew of sensor inputs, outputs, feedback circuits, and EPA guidelines for emissions controls. And, just like your desktop computer software, it is customizable ...
  19. So ... all things considered ... it sounds like the IPC Module is the culprit, since it has to interpret the message coming from the 2003 fuel level sender (which it's doing backwards right now) and it also accepts the inputs from the steering wheel for the Information Center. I would lean toward reflashing the IPC with '03 software before trying to trace any wires.
  20. After looking in my scan tool, it appears that the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Module receives the input from those 2 bottom switches on the steering wheel. GM calls them out as 'DIC Fuel Switch' and 'DIC Menu Switch' I am going to presume that 'DIC' means 'Driver Information Center' ... anyone else knows differently, please let me know so I can correct my notes ... So ... it is possible that the IPC you have in the truck now did not have a DIC, and a reflash that contains the software for the DIC will have the proper software, and the buttons will then function properly. ~OR~ The IPC modules look at the sensed conditions of the input switches differently between the software for MY's '03 and '04 ... and that's why the switches don't work right now. These are just guesses on my part ... there may be another underlying problem with wires that I don't know about ... just trying to help.
  21. Without a wiring diagram, it's hard for me to tell you about those bottom 2 buttons. I can look in my scan tool, but that will take a few minutes ... You may want to consider getting a scan tool of your own. You can get one pretty cheap for just GM vehicles that will access all modules on the vehicle bus. Check out www.obd2.com
  22. Dub's just got an itch to have some red wheels ...
  23. The tool that you're referencing is the 'magic wand' tool ... and it does highlight the photo when you click it, but it's intent is to focus on 1 color of the picture. So, if you have say ... 27 different colors that make up the image that is your truck, the magic wand will grab maybe 3 of them ... Now, if you just want to cut out extra background outside of your truck's image, and leave a little background behind your truck, then the 'crop' tool will work well. It looks like a black DNA symbol with a line through it.
