  1. All six issues of Chevy High Performance Magazine shipped to your door for $26 Part 1 - April 2004 (baseline supercharger install) Part 2 - November 2004 (lighter wheels, flow master muffler, smaller pulley, CAI) Part 3 - January 2005 (add torque converter, shift kit, smaller pulley, replace CAI, larger intercooler, cowl hood) Part 4 - May 2005 (more refinements, modify water pump) Part 5 - March 2006 (different wheel combinations, bigger brakes, swaybars) Part 6 - April 2006 (BBK TB, transmission "rebuild", magnaflow exhaust cat back, custom PCM tuning, methanol injection)
  2. Surge brakes take a little getting used to. Personally, I would put as much weight in the trailer as possible, so that the backend of the truck does not angle down - on a hard stop you can get a bit of see-saw going on. If you do need to have weight in the bed, place it as close to the cab as possible
  3. This is my second ls truck. My 1999 5.3 2wd extended cab (270 hp stock), with shorty headers, Airaid CAI, cat-back exhaust and Hypertech tune got 17.5 mpg in mixed highway/city and 20.5 on the open freeway (65 mph), with 3.73 gears. All of the mods added about 2 mpg. The truck had 275/60/17 tires - 30" diameter. My 2004 6.0 2wd extended cab (345 hp stock), with mid length headers, Airaid CAI, cat-back exhaust and PCM for Less tune has an overall average mpg of 17.2 (as listed on the DIC, with nearly 35,000 miles) and can get 20.5 on the open freeway (65 mph), with 3.73 gears. All of the mods added about 3 mpg. The PCM for less tune replaced a Superchips tune, and gained 1 mpg (previously got 19.5 on the freeway). This truck has 275/55/20 tires - 32" diameter. Overall, I get about 1 mpg less with the 6.0 than with the 5.3. One point to note, because of the bigger tires, my 2004 has a 6.67% higher gearing (32"-30"/30"). So if the LQ9 option does not change the tire size, the mileage difference will be even greater. It would be very easy to get lower gas mileage with the 6.0, if you were not careful. I drive with the instant gas mileage function on the DIC and trying to coast rather than brake where possible. Everything being equal, you would like to think that 13% more displacement would equal 13% less mileage.
  4. I have a PCMforless tune, got it last summer. It is amazing: more power and 1 mpg increase on the highway!
  5. Snap/Popping Type Noise Coming from Front of Vehicle (Remove Bolt-In Front Crossmember and Add Washers) #03-08-61-002G - (Feb 14, 2006) Snap/Popping Type Noise Coming from Front of Vehicle (Remove Bolt-In Front Crossmember and Add Washers) 2003-2006 Cadillac Escalade 2003-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe 2004-2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2003-2006 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL 2004-2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Series (½ Ton) and 2500 Series (¾ Ton) with Two-Wheel Drive This bulletin only applies to 1500 and 2500 series 2WD vehicles with recirculating ball type steering. This bulletin is being revised to add the 2006 model year, update the correction information and change the quantity of parts needed. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-61-002F (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories). Condition Some customers may comment on a snap or popping-type noise coming from the front of the vehicle. This condition is most apparent during hard left or right turns at low speeds. Going over bumps while turning may also aid in producing this noise. Correction Remove the bolt-in front crossmember and add washers using the procedure listed below. Important: DO NOT slot the mounting holes on the crossmember as stated in previous bulletins. Slotting the holes has been found to be less effective and, in some cases, causes the noise condition to be more prevalent. 1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in the General Information sub-section of the Service Manual. 2. Remove the mounting nuts, bolts and the front crossmember from the vehicle. 3. Clean all the undercoating off the crossmember in the area of the mounting holes. 4. Reinstall the crossmember with the bolts and nuts. On the driver and passenger side, add washer P/N 11509592, or equivalent hardened washer (see dimensions below), at each bolt head and nut location. Tighten Tighten the bolts to 120 N·m (89 lb ft). 5. Apply an even coat of Anti-Corrosion Coating, P/N 12346501, or equivalent, to the crossmember where removed. Overlap the original coating in order to provide an effective corrosion protection. Inside Diameter Outside Diameter Thickness 14 mm (0.551 in) 35 mm (1.38 in) 3 mm (0.118 in) Parts Information Part Number Description Qty 11509592 Washer 8 Warranty Information For vehicles repaired under warranty, use: Labor Operation Description Labor Time E1730 Crossmember, Front Suspension - Replace Use published labor time
  6. Here is my list so far, before I hit 36,000 miles: 1. Replace the steering shaft 2. Repair the low speed clunk when turning - cross member bolts 3. Place the steering wheel buttons - paint worn off 4. New gas cap - tether too short Anybody have any other ideas?
  7. There are two vendors that sell decent kits: Hotchkis and Frederico Performance. The Frederico bars are 1 5/16" solid and the Hotchkis bars are 1 7/16" hollow (.25" wall). To compare any bars of the same shape, multiple the bar diameter to the fourth power (less the inner diameter to the fourth power for hollow bars) and compare the values. Because of the fourth power, a small change in diameter makes a big difference is torsional resistance. The problem with Belltech (and ADDCO) is the bars are not much stiffer than stock (1 1/4" with .20" wall). So don't let a lower cost be the only factor in your choice.
  8. I have the Magnaflow 15838 Cat Back Exhaust. There are sound clips on Magnflow's site http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd...=Trucks&id=1292 One thing to be careful of is where the sound clip is recorded. One site had clips from outside the truck, as you drive away, which really does not tell you what it is like inside. The only time the magnaflow is really loud is at part throttle (say constant speed going up a grade) - full throttle is quieter!. The magnaflow kit is very easy to install, the hardest part is getting the stock exhaust off, especially the mounts through the rubber hangers. It is a hard choice, so best wishes.
  9. Personally, I found the B&B to be too loud - had it for a week and changed to a Magnaflow. If you have a wife or entertain clients with your truck, B&B, in my opinion, is not a good choice.
  10. Thanks for the comments! Special thanks to Ebay for being on top of the problem. Sale was canceled and taken off My Ebay. The funny thing is the address in New Jersey looked OK (googled it and came up with a person named Hall). Here is the email that was sent this morning for payment. 12. I "won" a bid on Ebay from a seller catherinehall77, but the deal looks like a scam. It was item number 180065148602. Did anyone else bid on this? The ad mentions a reserve price, but there was no reserve, all of the bidders IDs are private, the seller want a moneygram, this is the seller's first sale - no prior history Does this sound like it was written by a girl?: The best supercharger with the most torque and H.P. Winner of General Motors (Best Product Award) at the 2003 SEEMA show in Vegas. I had this on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche and what difference, spun all four tires in the rain for 100 ft.and 2 tires on dry pavement for 100 ft.. Only used it 6,000 miles and then took it off before I traded the truck. This is not a bolt on or hang on type but a complete intake unit with larger injectors and cooler intake temperatures and thus more power. This is a complete kit. I didn't get pictures of all the accessories like the belt, pully, fuel pump ect. but is complete as it was new. Go to www.magnusonsupercharger.com for direct info. New these sell for over 5,000 and I am setting the reserve at a fair price. It increases H.P. by 150 and the torque by 200 lbs. It is Awesome! Remember, You can't have to much Money or too much Horsepower. For more details regarding my best price please contact me before bidding.
  13. I was able to find the magazines on Ebay (it took a couple of months). Some of these issues are available as "back issues" from Chevy High Performance. I have not tried it, but there is are also http://usedmagazines.com/titles/ChevyHighPerformance/ Here are the dates and a brief description: Part 1 - April 2004 (baseline supercharger install) Part 2 - November 2004 (lighter wheels, flow master muffler, smaller pulley, CAI) Part 3 - January 2005 (add torque converter, shift kit, smaller pulley, replace CAI, larger intercooler, cowl hood) Part 4 - May 2005 (article on website) Part 5 - March 2006 (different wheel combinations, bigger brakes, swaybars) Part 6 - April 2006 (BBK TB, transmission "rebuild", magnaflow exhaust cat back, custom PCM tuning, methanol injection) Hope this helps.
  14. Stock SS is 1 1/4" hollow bar, with .20 wall thickness.
  15. A good swaybar should be a matched to the vehicle and driving style. Most Americans are experienced with cars/trucks that require more steering wheel movement to maintain a turn (understeer), as opposed to say a Porshe 911 where less steering is required (oversteer). But as the front bar is increased in diameter, there comes a point where a rear bar is needed to reduce the increased level of understeer (can't just install the biggest front bar and not have problems). The swaybar design should also consider what the weight balance, front to rear, is - which is hard for a truck since it can vary so much. Having the bars be adjustable would go a long way toward helping (but most are not made that way). Most bar sets are going to be a compromise. In addition to the bars, the mountings materials are important. For a stock vehicle, the rubber mounts work OK, give years of trouble free service, but compress under pressure. But for better performance, the "plastic" mounts are far superior - very little deflection under pressure. Just changing the mounts will make a difference on an otherwise stock vehicle. When the bar set is installed, and the vehicle is a rest, the bars should be parallel to the ground and the links should be perpendicular with the ground. If not, the links should be changed. The reason for this is maintain the same amount of movement through the arc of the bar. If the bars are not parallel to the ground, the links will have more side-to-side motion in one direction, as opposed to the other - which changes the effective stiffness and weight transfer. The size of the bar makes a big difference. For a replacement bar, that is the same physical shape as the stock bar, the percentage increase in stiffness is the new bar diameter to the 4th power, divided by the old bar diameter to the 4th power (if the bars are hollow, the inside diameter, to the 4th power, needs to be deducted from the outside diameter to the 4th power). A stock SS bar (1 1/4") is roughly 50% stiffer than the Z71 bar (1 1/8"). As for the bar material strength, the stiffness formula does not take it into consideration. However, the bar should not be so elastic that it is permanently deformed under hard use. Is a hollow bar better than a solid bar, well yes and no. The same amount of stiffness can be attained in both bars, however the hollow bar needs to be larger in diameter, but has less weight. For an SS, a 1 5/16 solid bar has about the same stiffness as a 1 7/16" hollow bar (.25 wall thickness), but the hollow bar is about 40% lighter. The one nice thing about hollow bars (for racing applications) is you make one set of mounts and vary the stiffness by changing the wall thickness. Some have argued that the arms of a solid bar a stiffer, but if you do the math, it is not by very much. Both bars should perform equally well. There are a couple of vendors selling bars for the SS. The main difference, that I have seen, is how the rear bar is attached and whether the bars are hollow or solid. Hotchkis bar attachs to the frame rails ahead of the axle, the others attach to the frame behind the axle. (Something to check with the rear mounted bars is whether the bar will rub on a custom exhaust).
  16. This would be a good set-up for a Z71 - stock front bar is 1 1/8". But for a SS, the Addco bar is the same diameter as stock!
  17. Examples of bolts from Hotchkis (and the replacement bolts used): Some of these brackets are less than 1/8" thick, which means the edge of one or two threads comes in contact with the hole. In addition, regular bolts threads are about .007" undersize, and the holes are .005 - .01" oversize - making about .012 - .017" of slop. This makes for plenty of back and forth motion to beat the threads up and oval the holes. This is not fun to fix (and I have fixed a few), so use the right lenght bolt, the first time! There is a great book by Carroll Smith, called "Prepare To Win", which goes into this, with much greater detail.
  18. Hey TrboDslHD, Nice bars, but I see a potential problem that a few manufacturers do - the bolts are too short. What I mean by too short is that the bolt shank (not the bolt threads) should make full contact with the supports. Even if you need to install a few washers, the threaded part of the bolt should stick out beyond the bar-link connection and the link-connector connection. If not, over time, the threads will flatten out, and the connection will get sloppy. Also, once the connection get loose, the holes tend to become oval. This does not happen over night, so not to worry, but it only takes a few bucks to fix.
  19. 3 Volume set of service manuals (roughly 1500 pages) for 1999 C/K trucks (and newer) Silverado/Sierra trucks, lightly used. Check www.helmsinc.com for more information. With shipping and tax from Helm, these manuals cost over $150. I will ship these 3 manuals to your door for $100.
  20. I have 4 new KYB MonoMax shocks for 1999 and up 2WD trucks (regular cab and extended cab). I original bought these for my 1999 Silverado, but sold the truck before installing the stocks. I have 2 of model 565066, and 2 of model 565016. (Check www.kyb.com for fitment on other vehicles) At Jegs, and others, these cost $50 each, plus shipping, I am selling these for $160 shipped to your door. KYB MonoMax performance gas shocks. For hot trucks, sporty SUVs, and 4WDs. These shocks are engineered and designed to deliver performance and strength regular shocks don't have. These shocks have a vehicle specific valving for severe duty and handling. They help reduce squat under acceleration, helps eliminate braking nose dive, and helps control roll and pitch. These are the KYB Gasajust on steroids! Bigger and better. * High pressure gas design (280psi) * Monotube design * Hardened chrome 1/2 piston rod * Seamless body cylinders and eye rings * Floating piston * Self-sealing packing * Velocity-sensitive valving * Large 46mm bore and piston Thes will not fit VHO 2wd or SS 2wd (or other torsion bar front suspension trucks)
  21. They are solid. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My stock 2004 bar was hollow. Think of it from GM's view point, a hollow bar weights about 40% less than a solid bar. Every pound counts toward CAFE fuel standards. A hotchkis 1 7/16" bar (with .25" wall thickness) has about the same torsional resistance as a 1 5/16" solid bar. Remember, the stiffness comparision formula (if the bars are the same shape) simplifies to the bar diameter to the fourth power. Here is the full formula: Formula for sway bar stiffness of a solid steel bar K (lbs/in) = 500,000 D^4 / (0.4244 x A^2 x B) + (0.2264 x C^3) A| \________/ C .............B A - Length of end perpendicular to B (torque arm - inches) B - Length of center section (inches) C - Length of end (inches) D - Diameter bar (inches)
  22. I am trying to get rid of the haze on the inside of the windows. I have used all kinds of store bought products, but none seem to work that well, any suggestions? Currently, I am using a mixture of 50% water with 50% denatured alcohol (with a few drops of dish soap), which gets the windows clean, but the haze returns after a couple of days. What next?
