  1. Hi.I have a 2003 Silverado SS. I was looking for some help with info on the wiring harness that is coming from behind the top of engine on the pass side and looks to be going to the ac aluminum can. It then also goes to the back toward the frame. I have not full traced it yet. Sorry I cannot post pics. It has been chewed up along with the firewall pad by some pesky squirrels. Does anyone have a part number for the harness and the firewall pad. I checked the internet for wiring diagrams with no luck. Truck will run but I will not turn anything on for fear of a short, especially the ac. Looks to be 8-10 wires in the convoluted tubing harness and 1-2 have been chewed thru. My oil press gauge is not working. It was working fine until I notice this. Do not know if oil press gauge is not working due to the common stepper motor failure. I caught this problem when I had no oil pressure reading and that's when I saw the harness chewed. Squirrel chewed thru the harness right above the pass side valve cover at the firewall. Truck only has 24,000 miles, I crank and move it once a week to keep things up. I drive it on occasion. This has me really down. I try to keep the truck nice. Any info, diagrams, tips on install of harness and firewall pad, part numbers for replacement would be much appreciated. Thanks to all for the great and helpful info all these years. Please keep the info and pics coming.
  2. Anyone had a problem with the bottom padding on the driver arm rest/ door pull coming loose? It looks like the glue that holds the rubber padding at the bottom has come loose. So far the pass side is ok. Only have a little over 20,000 miles on my 03'. It is bulging out in the middle. Anyone have a part number so I can replace?
  3. You are correct, it is aggervating. As you can see I don't drive it much. I did drive it this week to work. I work at a hot rod shop,Detroit Speed and Engineering, and the owners have an 03 dullie that has had earlier replacements that clunk. Hope to pass good news to them also. Thanks.
  4. Sounds like a good testimony eeekroar. Thanks.
  5. How many miles do you have on this replacement? This is the same one that gmpartsdirect is selling? Thanks.
  6. I was wanting to know if the intermediate shaft that is listed on gmpartsdirect works. It's been 3 years since it has been around. Do enough SS trucks have the miles on them to prove that the infamous clunk is gone. My 03' has just turned 10,000 miles. It's been clunking the last 4,000. I want to install the new shaft but before I lay down the cash can I get some reviews. I did a search already to see if anything new has come up. Thanks to all for a great forum.
  7. There was also an rear seat storage box available for under the rear seat. It is plastic with a lockable lid with a GM logo. There is also a plastic bed liner with a bowtie moulded in the front. Both were dealer installed on my truck. It already had those on it when I bought it new from chevy dealer. Mine is an blue 03 and I think it has everything but the XM. Could have gotten it but did not want, they said easy to add if wanted later. I kept my window sticker and the options listed as add on are..... onstar, underseat storage dealer install, heavy duty trailering equipment, 6 disk stereo, dual zone auto air climate control, spare tire lock.No listing of the bed liner. The truck only had 19 miles on it when I bought it new. It has 9878 on it now. I did as much research on it before and after i bought it as I could. Hope this helps.
  8. Thanks for the complement dkkustoms. The guys in the shop take a lot of pride in trying to make some really awsome parts. The owners, Kyle and Stacy, really stress great parts with great customer service. We try to buy american made support products and manifacture most of the parts in our shop in Mooresville NC. We have 4 engineers here, Kyle and Stacy worked as engineers for GM a combined 28 years so they know their suspension stuff. I made sure to drive my SS truck when I went for my interview 3 years ago.
  9. Thanks to all who replied. I am more of an old school mechanic. Sometimes the newer cars do have me a little scared. You would think not, I work in the shipping dept at Detroit Speed and Engineering and am around 69 Camaros and parts all day. I have 2 57 Chevys that I have total confidence working on. But when it comes to computer controlled engines I ask for help here or other guys in the shop. If anybody here has Camaros, Novas, Chevelles or Chevy II look us up at www.detroitspeed.com Thanks again for the replys. bill
  10. I need to remove the battery from my truck. What is the proper order to remove and install the batt cables? Someone told me pos off 1st and pos on 1st. I searched the post and someone posted neg off 1st and neg on last. What is correct? Does anyone have a factory manuel that has correct procedure? Are there any more tips that you can give? The last thing I want to do is blow an airbag or ruin the radio. Thanks for any help. Also thanks for a great site we can go to as a SS community to ask questions, rant, brag, or just talk. Bill.
  11. Thanks for the info. Interesting to see what future will be once LOF glass gone. Wonder if someone will reproduce like my 57 glass? Thanks.
  12. 03' with 4560 miles on OD. Had trans reprogramed at dealership, tailgate cables, rear tail lights had bad ground, inside bearing lubricated on steering shaft, and worst of all recently had driver window vandalized causing $2700 in damage to interior. Man I love driving it. Babyed it. Like new until this. billsmith.
  13. ;) Yea, wink.. wink.. That would work. Thanks Rob. With your help I was able to find a LOF glass local. The date codes didn't match as well as yours but I don't have enough info on date codes anyway. It had a N Y close together on the right side. Mine had G on far left and Z on far right. I know we were a little iffy on the shipping safety. I would hold on to that glass though. With them not making many more with the LOF logo, demand and price will go way up. I can get date coded LOF glass for my 57 Chevys but it cost and it's almost 50 years old. So collectible cars and trucks will demand factory matching glass in future. Thanks for all the info and help.billsmith.
  14. Yea, 20% to 25% is what I have always heard. And that all depends on how efficient the drivetrain is. I believe a automatic trans looses more power due to the torque converter. A lock up converter helps.
  15. Thanks Rob. I will check back first of week and see what info you have. I was able to find a Pilkington office in Charlotte. Have not heard from them yet. Yours looks to be closest to what I have. Funny, I looked on the Chevy lot and every 06 truck has LOF glass like mine, I believe you are right Chevy has a butt load. Thanks. billsmith.
