  1. 2wd drive is great fo playing around but a year around daily drive AWD is a must!!!
  2. Did you check the fuse box in the engine compartment? I had two guys at the car wash run both my seats up at the same time and I guess when the seats hit the stop, it blew the big square fuse block. That would be the first place I would look.
  3. Arizona.... No rust at all on that piece of steel!!! How did you transport it? My last bed adventure I flipped the bed upside down and I installed boards in my stash pockets. Then screwed boards length wise to rest the upside down bed. A few straps and big C clamps held it in place from Texas to NJ.
  4. Hey NYSS, I sent you back a PM with my contacts numbers. Sorry it took a few days to get back to you. My phone was going crazy all last week. I just got a replacement phone. Thanks!
  5. Thanks guys for looking out for me! I'm reaching out to NYSS and see what he has for me. LA is a bit of a ride...LOL but I did go to San antonio for my 67 chevy truck bed. So anything is possible
  6. I purchased shorty stainless steel headers from eBay but the passenger side outlet didn't have a flat flange. It had the bulb flange sticking out on the header. I cut it off so it will fit now but I needed the truck back so I had the stock manifold bolts fixed and replace. I paid $190 I'll take $175 plus whatever the shipping is.
  7. I guess no one is breaking down their SS silverado. I guess that's a good thing but bad for me
  8. Finally cleaned out the glovebox. You guys were right GT5 4:10 gears. I don't know why I was stuck on 3:73 unless the sales person stuck it in my head when I bought it. Oh well, carry on
  9. Rustoleum rust converter paint and stay on it!!! I too was very disgusted with the lack of undercoating on our trucks! The sad part is the frame metal gauge is very thin compared to older trucks and it won't take much for strength to be comprised. Watch your brake lines. I replace all of mine with stainless steel after a blow out during an emergency stop! Cause by rust under the drivers seat.
  10. I never seen a front diff go bad unless you're throwning some serious power. Are you sure it's not the hub bearings. 80k is when the bearings act up.
  11. I'm in NJ with connections in Texas and Northeast Pennsylvania. I Can pick up the bed in person and I'm willing to drive far if the price is right. I can be reached at [email protected] Thank you.
  12. I run optima batteries in most of my vehicles. Their is two things an owner needs to know. 1) they don't like to be discharged under 10 volts because they don't recharge properly unless you put a lot of voltage to it! 2) every now and then or if the battery goes low. You have to cook the optima battery (their words, not mine) . You have to use a heavy duty charger with the boost or start setting. My charger puts out 200 amps from harbor freight. (Great charger for the money). Crank it up to 200 for an hour and the batt will start hissing, stinking and it might drip a little out the vent but afterwards, it's a new battery. I have some that are 10 years old, maybe older.
  13. Even my owners manual doesn't list it. Under towing it says contact your dealer for tow rating but in the advertisement brochure it says the SS is rated for 7400lbs. That's the same rating as the other k1500 with 3:73 . The trucks with 4:10 tow @8500lbs. What code should I be looking for on my glove box sticker? 3:73 was GT4 or something like that??? I really don't want to go under my truck but if I have something rare, I want to know! I have a little rust over my right rear wheel well and I was thinking of fixing it or dare I say it... Sell it
  14. I just checked the window sticker and to my shock, it didn't list the gear ratio. It had everything from synthetic gear oil in the rear right down to the spare tire lock listed. So I'm going through other paperwork now. I'm really gonna be ticked if I have to go outside, Jack up my truck, put a chalk marks and count rotations in 8* degree weather.... I do have the large rotors with dual piston calipers and the truck did come with the tow package but I think they all did.
  15. Now that's what we call "stupid horsepower" How much boost and hp is expected out of that monster?
  16. I'm the original owner. I didn't have it built, I just bought it off the lot and it's AWD with 3:73. I remember being bummed when I learned 4:10 was available in 2004. I still have the window sticker somewhere. I'll try finding it.
  17. Well than I have the optional 3:73 in my 2003 AWD. It was 2004 4:10 was standard.
  18. The last 4L65e I blew and had rebuilt by a local shop. We ordered a Monster in the Box kit from monster transmissions. Monster has their own sun she'll and 5 pinion gears along with heavy duty everything. I think it was $800 for all the parts including converter and $400 for the rebuild with me pulling and installing the trans. They also sell complete rebuilds. I've been hearing about these 10 vane front pumps blowing and I had one blow on me. I'm wondering if going back to the 7 vane pump word be better? Who is FLT or are you saying he should ride his harley? LOL
  19. Me too. I think I popped a pin on the latch and then you can turn it in or out to pull tighter on the window. If you look at it closely, you'll see the threads for adjustment.
  20. Well I got the metric sockets but I'm horrible at sending things back! So I'll be cracking off the nut once this polar vortex lets up on the east coast.

    Tuning?

For a stock SS 5800 is good and safe. I installed an air cleaner and a superchips race tune. That moved everything up to 6000 rpm. I would advise bumping up the line pressure if you're using the tuner. It seems to help the transmission last longer with less clutch slippage.
  22. Did you get that huffer on there yet???. Like you, I've been wanting one since I bought my truck 12 years ago. I've been looking for a complete kit with tuner and everything but with no luck. I'm nervous about just buying the supercharger and having to piece together a project.
