Exactly^ that sounds like a bad battery/alternator or connection somewhere in the system. If you look at big 3 upgrade guides it will show you where to look for major wires in the system. How do your battery terminals look ? I would take them off clean them along with the battery really well and see if that helps. -Matt

If your trying to get somewhere and just need it to work a relay and a switch would work, more long term just google or amazon e fan controller there are a lot of them out there

As long as your subs are not plugged into a amplified speaker output (they probably aren't) the head unit amp wouldn't affect the subs at all. The thumping could be several things but since you say taping the head unit causes it to happen I would say your sub connection, or maybe ground connection on the head unit may be loose or bad. -Matt

Its absolutely soaked in leather conditioner in the picture, I clean it and let that stuff soak every once in awhile and saw it looking good so I took my pictures. Most of it will absorb and the rest I rub in. Thanks for the compliment!! Its been about 4 years I guess I finished it in about a month the first time I did it than from there left it for several years than redid colors and stuff to match the new paint. There are still some minor things I want to do before I call the truck finished but for the most part it will stay the way it is. -Matt

The rear seat did...... leave something to be desired I hope to someday, I've got a couple things that will pop and should put me in a place to lease out a small place and hopefully expand my little speed shop to something to live off of There definitely is it was a long time ago that I did it but it involved the stock mounting points and welding up a bar for the 5 points, usually you attach them to a roll cage so I had to improvise. Also I have to change out the seat belts every once in awhile they have a inspection tag on them By the way I like how ya'll slip "SS" into everything for example SSmothSilSS and SSSilverado33 are reading this right now and its awesome ! -Matt

This is what the iPad is usually doing while I’m driving, I can go through and look at anything I want with this app including GM codes like ABS and here it is almost finished, and finished !! An insane amount of work but it looks great is very functional and its durable. Wifey and I hit up the beach nearly every weekend out here and it takes it like a champ -Matt

I re-did the leather on the console the second to last time, I really like the new stitching on it and the leather matches my paint perfectly, the only thing I changed since than was to add that gorgeous stitching to the shift boot At this point I put a stick in the truck and had to remake the console’s face plate, this is how I was rolling for a little bit After that I made a new faceplate for it Then finished up the console with some banana plugs for the subs, some dynamat new switches and dual purpose books. I have a pressure bracket on both sides of the radio and I use the books to smash it down and hold it, let me tell you that radio is not moving anywhere and the books help block the transmission noise I put some carbon fiber wrap behind the speaker grille in the door panel, I plan to run a very dim red LED around the ring of the speaker and it will look great subtly highlighting that carbon fiber Putting everything together and rug doctoring the carpet I started a red LED swap but haven’t finished yet, heres one of the panels to compare tho I really like my Covercraft sun shade and its red too ! I couldn’t have asked for a cooler product (pun definitely intended) Oh yeah somewhere in the I redid the interior lineX to match the new paint, I also brought the LineX down under to door now for extra protection and ease of cleaning and its virtually invisible you would never guess that there was bedliner there so it just hangs out and does its job

Making the wiring harness for radio/GPS/alarm etc and also putting in provisions so its easy to add switches to console when I add the stick I used a semi-thick foam on the sides but on the top I put a full 1 1/2 of memory foam and I am so happy I did it feels amazing road trips are awesome in this thing I did this all black to begin with but ended up not liking it so I re-did it with maroon on the sides My Corbeau’s came in the mail so I got to tearing them apart and put a maroon/black mix of leather on them and got a piece of the leather embroidered with the SS logo I cut up some foam to make a new rear seat, I couldn’t find anything I liked so what else is there to do but make it yourself ? Just little bit of foam completely changed the look and feel of this seat you sink down into it and it holds pretty good, much better than just a bench for sure The headliner was fun I love the look of suede but couldn’t find many places in the interior that I wanted it so when I saw how good it looked up there I was very happy. I was considering doing two stripes in anticipation of my future paint job but ended up doing this instead, I still might change it I’m not sure but for now I like it. All throughout this there is a ton of painting with the original color but I’m leaving that all out because down the thread I paint again with the new red I don’t like the way I did this, I just took a standard roll of automotive carpet and glued it to my factory carpet and pad. When I did it I was thinking of the extra thickness for sound deadening and softness but aftermarket carpet is almost never up to the OE quality standards. Next time I pull the interior out I’m ditching this for a stock black carpet setup, they come molded and everything it will retain its glossy black much longer that way I considered painting the airbag but it just didn’t seem right to me with all the leather on the dash so I ended up wrapping it. I really wish I wasn’t so stubborn because finding the regulations and imitating them to make sure the airbag would still deploy properly was a pain but it looks great so it was worth it. While this was going on I was also fiberglassing the iPad dash mount, I believe I was the first silverado in the world with one in the dash especially because at the time I didn’t even know of any vehicles that had done this yet. No pics on that sorry it was my first time and it didn’t go amazing but I did it haha. Its on a hinge and can come in and out, when it slides in it plugs into a charger and I use wifi to play music to the stereo wirelessly and also to connect to the OBD2 wirelessly What a mess back here with the amps !! This is a project thats still not done, I cleaned up all the wiring but I want to build a MDF wall back there to mount amps inverters crossovers etc to. Im always changing this stuff and having that will help tremendously. I’ll mount it up tight and great stuff all the gaps than dynamat it because my back wall is the only thing left of the truck that still vibrates. A single layer of dynamat is just not enough for 3,000 watts I was originally running G-force seat belts but I just didn’t like their feel or look and eventually upgraded to Corbeau’s own belts

I’m still playing catch-up with all the stuff I’ve done to my truck, next up is the interior. I want to document all this stuff to show my kids someday and hopefully help some guys out (plus its convenient for appraisals) Like most of my threads there will be a lot of pictures. Let it finish loading and the pics will resize automagically. I started out with the standard tan interior plus a sub box and some amps Then I pulled everything out in preparation to LineX the interior of the cab, pulling everything apart was fun and not really that hard at all, pulling your seats and console for a really deep clean every couple of years isn’t far fetched at all After everything was out I taped everything up and sprayed it out. Whenever I work through the night I always forget to take pictures so the huge gaps in all of my projects is due to that. I just get so determined to finish and I forget everything else From there I drew up this (very) rough sketch of what I wanted my new console to look like. Its a pretty funny story, my cousin and I used to train for hours in the sauna and we would always talk about the weirdest things after we started getting really hot and one day this drawing was created in there and when we got home we looked at it and were like yeah thats good lets do it, and no other planning went into it, we just completely committed to something we thought of when we were out of our minds haha I made a rough mockup out of particle board to figure out clearances, arm rest height, and to try and make sure it would accommodate the manual transmission I planned to put in it at some point in the future I was having a hard time figuring out how to mount it to where it would remain rock solid, but also leave room between console and seat, and be easily removable because the tranny hump is curved and uneven and just weird, so I cut up some aluminum I had in the garage and made this and welded some bolts sticking up from it Heres some pics of the console starting to take shape The Kickers came in !! Testing the fitment and ease of install/extract here also making sure I like the arm rest height and that it would accommodate a shifter in the future Ensuring fitment for the sub and the head unit and making sure I like the angle of each before continuing

I got them from ProFormParts, they have several different styles check them out at the bottom of this page https://www.proformparts.com/category-exec/category_id/247/nm/GM_Performance_Parts/page_num/1 Like most true gear head sites its kind of weird to navigate but though those 7 pages there are several covers that work on our trucks They bolt right on for the most part, they are much taller to accommodate for bigger stuff under there, so you have to check clearances but for us we should be good. You'll need a bolt kit but almost all of them come with it. You'll need to relocate your coil packs obviously. There are a hundred different ways to do this of varying difficulties you could go extreme like I did or some people just bring them higher up into the intake. And lastly you'll need to do a little minor plumbing. This is a great time to do a catch can if you can, if not any in-line PCV valve will work. -Matt

After that I went into the ECM/Fuse Box/Coil relocation, theres a whole other thread on that process Got rid of these guys and was left with this Stuffed the cruise control, alarms, horns, and a couple other things into the wiper cowl How the fire wall used to look with all the junk and my way too big master cylinder hole SS headlight buckets Coating the frame Old valve covers VS new ones. This literally took 12 minutes including the new temporary plumbing And this is where I'm at now. I still have a lot I plan on doing like all new stainless plumbing, new radiators, new M/C, E fans, I'm gunna weld up a aluminum coolant can and catch cans, some wheel tubs, than several other little things to finish everything up I'll make sure to post as I go for the rest of it -Matt

Somewhere in there the hood and fenders got LineX, I plan to do the entire firewall when I pull the motor. Got rid of the stock manifolds and EGR for some wrapped headers. I had to cut out and braze the hole for the EGR which sucks because I had to redo the ceramic coating completely, I couldn't just re coat the one spot .... but stupid murphy caught up with me and I broke 2 of these suckers in the process I broke the very front drivers side, for that one I just took wheel off and drilled it right out, but I also had a worst case scenario happen... I broke the rear drivers side the one tucked way in the firewall curve. I ended up un-bolting the motor and sprinkling a little magic on everything and got that one out but it took about 6 hours to do and was probably the second worst thing I've ever done to the truck (second only to the exhaust wrap fiberglass hell I put a good friend and myself through)

Because thats exactly what I plan on doing !! A whole new motor with a blower is going in there soon just have to finish getting her ready first, she can't take all that power yet but will soon -Matt

This is going to be a super fast forward! I started working on the engine bay years before I started posting so I'll post everything I have up until right now and than continue to update it as I finish the work. I probably only have a few more months until the engine bay is show ready ! I unfortunately don't have any pics of the stock engine bay but most of us know what that looks like anyways. I found this pic online of a stock bay just for a starting point From there I really thought racing red wire loom looked great so I covered everything in it, it looked good and made the stock F150s I walked all over think it was the craziest truck on earth (oh how naive some of them were haha). I also starting painting some things the original color. The next significant change was the great fire of 2012! I was dumb back then and let someone install a stereo into my truck, they put the circuit breaker on top the fuse box and after a bit of spirited driving the connections grounded out on the brakes and started a small plastic fire. I completely lost brakes and E braked gently into some bushes by the pool house. Luckily I was a firefighter then and was just leaving the station so I called one of their personal phones and they showed up within two minutes. I had already extinguished by disconnecting battery and water that I had in truck but Im glad they showed none the less because loosing my truck is not an option. This is when I first started ditching stuff in the engine bay, I ripped out everything they had done and made a new stereo(another thread) and put my battery in my tool box From there I went through several alternators before I found one that could take the power from the stereo and inverters etc I was running. I had the black one replaced and fail twice on me when I decided to go big or go home and got a 400 amp monster from DC power. This alternator is perfect, great at idle etc and had it for years but it literally took 3 months (3 MONTHS!!!!) for them to ship it to me, everyone here can understand my frustration and how many times their tracking page was pinged by me those months. These are a few pics of how the engine sat for awhile, I kept it much cleaner than in this pic and was very happy with it for several years while I was working on other aspects of the truck Sand blasted and powder coated nearly every metal part in the truck, including core support Next I started painting engine and interior parts while prepping the truck for paint. I sand blasted everything and than used a thick self etching primer to take the fake texture out of everything, did some bondo where needed than laid some SEM sandal primer on top to get the paint really flat and shine, and from there went into the 3 stage paint and did a matte clear. .... okay well I guess I need someone else to reply to this so that I can post up the other half of the post, it says I did too many pictures which is weird because I host my own pics but whatever someone give me a spacer or something and I'll paste the rest of the post back in you know you want too..... there is some really good stuff coming.... thanks in advance !!

I really like it loud!! Thats why I have the cutouts, but I take road trips in it and drive the wife around a lot and I really really like the quiet grumble for daily and than opening it up when I want to have some fun. With dual 3in pipes the Borla's made almost no change to the sound. You have a sound clip of yours ? Thanks for the compliments guys -Matt

Welding my exhaust up! Its 3in (or slightly larger to slip over) mandrel bends the whole way through. I started with fake cats and some Borla's (which are for sale now) but they were wayyyyyyy too loud, 3in pipe really makes some noise. Now I'm doing headers > a set of race bullets (which look enough like cats that I'm good in Texas) > X-Pipe which does a surprisingly good job of muffling sound > cutouts > Hooker Max Flow Mufflers, which are the quietest no baffle muffler according to numerous sources and I can attest they do a great job and quieting everything down > out right in front the rear wheel. Really enjoyed welding all this up its a fun thing for someone with OCD to do and I'm extremely happy with how it all turned out with the 4 mufflers and x-pipe the sound is incredible. There is something about the Hooker's that make them quiet at idle and cruising but when you open it up they give you a nice growl the sound is exactly what I would do if I had the means to make my own muffler/sound. I went to the junkyard and got some stock hangers that way if I ever need to replace them I know just to buy the stock ones. Have 3 v-bands in there so I can easily remove the exhaust and do whatever. Heres the pics!! Here are the original parts I was going to go with but... not a good call on my part way too loud Heres the new mufflers Heres the bullets getting the V-band welded up. Someone drained my argon -_- so I had to weld these with flux core, no biggie tho because I was planning on grinding down all the welds anyways, I'm going to smooth all the welds out than ceramic coat it and it will look like its one long pipe the whole way through Here it is tacked up trying to figure out clearances and what not I spent way too long staring at this trying to decide what to do Heres a bend for the V-Band and some initial grinding Got some 1/2 rod at home depot to form the hangers from Not a very good torch this took awhile This little bender put out for sure Forming the hanger heres one of the hangers completed More pics to follow.... -Matt

I wouldn't check the harness first. I'm alomst positive those lights are a postive trigger so that means that the "rub through" would have to apply positive voltage to the wire not a ground and if none of the lights are on back there there shouldn't be any postive power anywhere in the harness, so assuming that it is a postive trigger light its very unlikely that the harness is the problem. I would start looking into your wiring in the dash, think of a way something could have been damaged because things like this arent very common. Could some water have gotten through weatherstripping onto the headlight switch? Did you acidentaly kick the trailer box by the pedals? I would look into the relays and wiring in the truck first. Also while your figuring this out taking out that brake fuse on the side of the dash will save your battery. -Matt
