  1. I have a 06, RWD, SS, with stock ride height that needs shocks. I would like to use Bilstein 4600s as I've had good luck with them in the past. Trying to source them and it's getting really confusing. The Bilstein website doesn't list shocks for the 06 SS but yet several members on here as well as other sites talk about Bilsteins for SS Trucks, but don't quote 4600 part #s. What part# shocks are you guys using on a 2WD truck? I thought I'd found #s a couple of times but they turned out to be 4WD listings and then they didn't even agree. Thanks, Dave
  2. Thanks Matt I didn't know that. Mine looked so good I assumed they were OEM.
  3. I'm in need of the drivers side exhaust pipe (from the muffler back) for a 2006 extended cab SS with dual exhaust. It is stainless and I think it is factory. I had a Magnaflo muffler installed about 4 years ago when I bought it. Problem is the muffler shop that did the work welded the stainless exhaust pipes to the stainless muffler with mild steel rod and the welds rusted through. Lost one of the pipes before I knew we had a problem. Chevy has obsoleted the part. Tried O'Reilly's and they just offer one that is 4" dia. Mine is about 2 5/8 OD. I say about because that is just measured with a tape. Appreciate any help you may be able to give; even if you don't have one fore sale, maybe you know a source. Thanks, Dave
  4. Thanks for the response but I didn't make it clear. I forgot to say that mine is just a RWD. Thanks though, Dave
  5. I'm looking for a front wheel hub for a 2006 Silverado SS with standard 20" wheels. Moog part # 515071 calls out that it is for 17" wheels. I don't find a Moog hub part # for 20" wheels I assume if there would be a difference it would have to do with the ABS but I don't know. Is there an issue using the 515071 hub with 20" wheels? I did find an AC Delco # FW313 but they are priced at $270 but I've had good luck in the past with Moog plus I.m cheap. Thanks, Dave

    code P0300

This might be of some interest to some. About a week ago my check engine light came on and it started to miss but not all the time (06 SS). I had just filled it up with gas so I thought maybe I got a bad tank full. I went to the autoparts and read the code and it was P0300, or a random misfire which kind of agreed with the gas theory. I added a bottle of Heat and as I was going to be out of town for the next week, told the wife it was probably going to be running rough for a while. When I got home it was running worse but she said that it ran best when cold, but after it got hot it was rough as hell but every now and then it would seem to be OK. Hmmmmmmm???? Back to the auto parts store to use the code reader and it listed 2 codes now, P0300 and P0305, or #5 cylinder misfire. I had put new plugs and wires in it and cleaned the injectors about 6,000 miles ago so I figured it was probably a coil as all had been good to this point. I pull the plug on #5 to have a look and find that the insulator has a crack in it. Installed a new plug and runs great again. Now I've cracked a new plug before when trying to install it in a tough to get at cylinder, but when I had screwed one up, it ran rough right from startup. This thing ran good for 6,000 miles. I can only figure that it had a micro crack in it and after it went through 6,000 miles of heat up and cool down cycles, it finally cracked all the way through where it could find a ground. ??????? maybe, not sure at all. Dave
  7. Downeast Johnny, I've retired 3 times but I always have to have something going. About 2 years ago I decided I should be in the injector cleaning business so I got setup to do that. Got the process worked out and started to get decent business going when I got an offer to work with another division of a company I worked with several years ago. (I'm a maintenance management consultant and reliability engineer). So the injector business had to go on a back burner as long as this gig lasts. All that said, it isn't as simple as just running them through the ultrasonic tank with the right solution, (I use a water based carburetor cleaner). They have to be firing while submerged during the cleaning process. I also checked flow and spray pattern and replaced all the consumables. There wasn't that much difference in the flow on my injectors, just a few percent; the big difference was spray pattern. Dirty they shot a stream, clean it is a good easily atomized spray pattern. 8. Hi all, New to the site. Bought my 06 SS about a month ago. Silver, 85K, dark grey interior. It is stock with the exception of a cold air kit. It has stainless exhaust on it all the way back, (I don't know if that is stock or not as this is the first SS I've been around), but the exhaust doesn't look factory. Really like the truck. Runs and drives great, everything works like it is supposed to. It has a little piston noise in it but as I read about the LQ9 engine, it sounds like it is common issue. When I first bought it it was only getting about 15mpg so I wasn't real pleased with that. Replaced plugs and wires but that didn't do much at all so I cleaned the injectors in my ultrasonic tank. That did it. I have since taken it on a 4,000 mile trip from KC to San Diego and back. Lots of mountains between here and SD, almost all the highway miles on the speed control and running about 75mph. Averaged 18.5 mpg for the entire trip. Really runs sweet. All in all, great truck. Last PU I had was a 95 Z71. What a difference. Attached is a picture of the SS and also on the way home I just had to make a stop in Winslow Arizona and stand on a corner for a while. Anybody that doesn't get that just think about the Eagles songs. Dave
