  1. I never had a single problem with mine and didn't have any charging problems. I had it on my truck for about 175000 miles. they are also, NOT hard to install. if its the first time you've ever done it it may be a little intimidating like anything else, but it is not difficult.
  2. taken off my 03 SSS. $175 shipped.
  3. I have not tried anything like that, but I'm sure the TM severly limits it. I would guess it would be able to break them loose with tuning, but maybe not. with a 5500lb truck and 20's in back with a locking diff, it may not be able to.
  4. well, the mods I have listed will only improve MPG and power, so ya, I think I can. right now between city and highway its getting 16mpg. when I go on a roadtrip, I'll document what it gets at 70, 75 and 80mpg on the highway. I'm hoping for 20mpg at 70mph, with mods. that may be wishful thinking. the 6.0L only gets 1mpg less than the 5.3 and the 6.0 obviously has more potential being the bigger motor and better heads, plus it has VVT. Its rated at 57more hp stock, it just needs a little tuning to really feel it. no-brainer to me. I'd much rather have the power than the 1mpg. I have a theory that the 6.0L may be able to kick into V4 mode more than the 5.3L because of the larger motor size. so with some tuning and experimenting maybe the 6.0L can get as good or better gas mileage than the 5.3L with the same mods.
  5. I traded in the SSS for a black exteneded cab, 4X4, Z71 6.0L NBS. so far I love the truck, but it definately needs some changes. the 6.0L is pretty gutless. I don't think it feels that much faster than a 5.3L. I would guess my SSS stock was faster. so tuning is going to be one of the 1st priorities. the PE delay and TM are retarded. the muffler also has to go, its just way too tame. gas mileage is pretty good, even though it rarely kicks into V4 mode. in 90* heat it will only kick in downhill going as slow as 60mph. interestingly though, when I drove it in the low 70*'s it would kick in on flat surfaces up to around 70mph. mods planned are GM CAI, UDP, tuning and muffler. hopefully it will run low 14's and get 20mpg on the highway.
  6. glad someone on here is setting things straight!! only correction is that you don't require 20's to have the L76. I just got one with 18's.
  7. the same engine?? the VMax is an ALUMINUM 6.0L with L92/L76 heads and Active Fuel Management and Variable Valve Timing. not even close to the same motors. Edit: ok, I'm confused. apparently GM named two different motors the Vmax?? the old LQ9 in 06' and the new L76 in 07 are both named Vmax's??
  8. brand new in box, never opened. $240 shipped.
  9. how GAY!! I'm bored and just for the hell of it, went to gmbuypower to built a 2007 sss and see if there are any differences. you can acually opt for a 5.3L leather seats aren't even available, nor a passenger side power seat. NO AWD either. base msrp is 34k, loaded it was only 35k.
  10. at 60 mph cruising I can get about 24 mpg. lean cruise works wonders that along with a CAI, duals, UDP
  11. hey Jamie! here are my suggestions... CAI, Ported TB by Mike (you know who I'm talking about) replace the muffler. catbacks are WAY overpriced IMO underdrive pulley retune with lean cruise enabled. (soundengineer can do this cheap) I have all these done and ran around 14.5 at the track and have a decent gain in gas mileage. ~4mpg on the highway.
  12. umm what?? can you explain? an extra .125 in stroke is ~13 cubic inches on a given V8. thats going to be 15 or so more hp depending on efficiency. I understand the concern with longevity and side loading, but saying a longer stroke isn't worth hp is not true. hell, the fastest 6spd ls1 in the country is a 4.125 stroke spinning to 8000 through the traps
  13. They are custom built, usually by a custom shop and sold as new conversions, the pics of the one you show has a street sceene bumper up front with ss badges, and a few other gm parts, when i built mine i used ALL current silverado SS parts and a few A/M parts to come up with my rendering of what gm should have offered us. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> damn, thats pretty sweet!! can we see some more pics?
  14. you can get about a 14% increased gas mileage if you can find a tuner to enable lean cruise for you. I have done so and i get pretty decent gas mileage. city/highway driving back and forth to work I get about 16mpg. if I set the cruise at 60mph I get about 22mpg, 70mph 17mpg, 80mph 14mpg. this is not veryified by the DIC, but by filling up. I agree, if you are getting ~10mph, you probably need some routine maintenance.
  15. I like the combo except for the crank... I wouldn't skimp there with a 'budget' peice. I've heard a couple horror stories about spun bearings do to eagle cranks. I have also been heavily researching similar combo's but for my camaro. its pretty much a pure playtoy/drag car. about the only downside to a 4.125 crank is it will consume a little more oil. I'm assuming you're not going to rev this very high, so longevity shouldn't be an issue. you would also have a 450cid motor with the same bore.
