  1. Hey guys, Barring any unforseen issues over the next month or so, I will be snagging some new toys for the SSS. Radix Mp112 Cam Heads (maybe) Headers HiFlow Cat Shiftkit Maybe a couple other little things as well. I live about 20 minutes North of Dover, DE and have way more than enough space to host. I have a big workshop garage large enough for two trucks to be worked on simultaneously as well as my regular house garage where we could feasibly work on another vehicle or two if we were so inclined. Since my list of things to do is pretty big I'm sure it would take me alone at least a few days to do it, and I'm assuming it could take a couple of days even with several people. If that were the case, I have plenty of room for folks to camp out inside or out lol. Bring the whole family they can go on walks out back in the woods ;) Lasagna, Hamburgers, Hot dogs, Beers and a bonfire are all very likely! I'm expecting this to take place near the end of April or mid May. I'm busy April 27th and first weekend of May. Anyone that would be interested in hanging out let me know a date that'd be good and we'll go with whatever is best for the most! Thanks guys, Joe
  2. http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/3642615238.html Gotta remove the "www." part for CL adds
  3. AutoAnything is excellent in my experience. I've bought pretty much everything I've gotten for any of my vehicles from them. Never had any issues and if you talk to them they will almost always reduce the price a little. I assume they have a list or specialized search engine that returns all the current lowest prices and then they beat it but I've never found anything anywhere cheaper.
  4. This has a full custom exhaust, he says the motor has been taken apart and supposedly bored & forged and who knows what else internally. Has the supercharger on it, 9" ford rear etc. a "supposedly" racing transmission, nothing stock etc I'm not worried about buying a modified car from the cars actual owner, this guy however is not the owner and there were 5 owners before him lol. He got it from his cousin who got it at an estate sale/auction and simply doesn't know what's in the car. This is why I wanted a mechanic with me, if I actually knew what I was looking at it'd be one thing, but I'm a newb in this area
  5. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/3685487740.html And here are interior pics they sent me: http://imgur.com/a/Cq5qz I think I'm going to pass on this, I had originally planned on buying it and trying to part out the mods one by one, I don't think I'd ever trust it as it is since I have no idea who built it and if it was done right. Not sure it's worth the time and money especially if I can't find a really solid mech to go with me, just makes me nervous. Edit: I'm still contemplating it, but it's a daunting task lol. And I found a 26k miles '00 SS that is calling my name. It's way more but... virtually a new car.
  6. Hey guys, Like the title says, I'm looking for a mechanic in the Alexandria, VA area. Basically, I'm going to check out a 2000 Camaro Z28 that has been modded quite a bit but the guy selling doesn't know much about it since he got it from an estate sale. The title is good and clear according to carfax and I'm at least going to check it out. So, I was wondering if any of ya'll are in that area and wouldn't mind making $20 or whatever you think is fair for a look-over. We have access to a lift and will be able to drive the car/lift it and check it out underneath etc. I'll most likely be looking tomorrow or Tuesday since, if it rains, I won't be working those days. If no one is in that area, no big deal, just thought it was worth a shot! Thanks, Joe
  7. http://easternshore.craigslist.org/ctd/3681662686.html Not a fan of the paint but otherwise looks pretty clean, only 70k miles as well. Anyone know if this is a members truck? Should be 'very' recognizable lol
  8. I'm not 100% set on a Camaro but I do have a budget, technically my budget is 5k with minor repairs needed but I can make it stretch to 7k for a fully turn-key vehicle. I actually saw that ad but like I said, no way I can pay that. Also, IL is a hell of a long way away lol almost 900miles from here. I've been looking for a while, I suspect it'll take a month or two to find the best bang-for-buck deal, but then as soon as I pay out a better one will pop up, such is life! If he's interested in selling/shipping for much less than what he wants then we could talk but it'd take a pretty huge drop in price for him unfortunately.
  9. I've been having the same issue lol I want a moderately economical car but I just can't stand driving 90% of the cars out there, the ones I do like are not exactly fuel friendly. I've more or less decided on a '00-'02 Camaro, they're fun to drive, capable of a decent average mileage and they're not ugly bricks on wheels. Of the ones you listed, I had a friend who absolutely loved his scion, it was comfortable to ride in, nothing more I can say really. I personally would probably consider the GTI before either the Focus or the FR-S though, but that's personal opinion.
  10. I'm definitely passing on this Z28, I found a nice SS here: http://ls1tech.com/forums/vehicle-classifieds/1628432-2000-camaro-ss-great-condition-pewter-black.html Carfax is showing a collision in the front end but it's got a super good Autocheck score for what that's worth. There's no structural damage but I'm worried that there could be issues with the steering, could maybe be off a few degrees and wear the tires funky etc. otherwise it looks beautiful and from what i'm told it runs beautifully, the seller is a camaro hobbyist/enthusiast with pretty good rep over there on LS1tech. Still, any collision is worrisome, of course it could just be a tapped/broken fender that they reported, but who knows.
  11. I've been looking around for a while for a '00-'02 Camaro and found a nice Automatic 4spd Z28 locally with 130k miles. This car has the 5.7L V8 My question is, the guy that owns it says he averages 15mpg .... on the highway... wtf lol. He said he's getting roughly 240 miles per full tank and this is almost all straight highway driving going from DE to Ohio 450 miles. Even my truck gets much better than that around town! He has complete records, been changing oil every 3k like clockwork, has extremely well kept documents on everything he's done since day 1 when he purchased about 2yrs ago. He's not sure what was done before he owned it but in my visual inspection I can see a Borla catback. Haven't delved into the engine much just a quick look so I'm not sure if he's got anything added in there. The car is in good shape but test driving it was actually pretty disappointing, it didn't have even half the get-up-and-go my truck does, hell even my wifes '97 528 BMW is a lot more responsive. But, I have to admit that Borla does sound great! So, I got to thinking (and that's usually a bad thing!) maybe the previous owner did several mods besides the borla and then never had the car tuned? Maybe a bad o2? bad cats? carbon etc? I'm open to any thoughts/suggestions,I'm thinking I might just keep looking since I'm wanting something with 20-30mpg, not 15! lol But, if you guys think the issue can be fixed relatively easily then I'll keep looking into it. Some other small issues it has: steering wheel is loose, wobbles up and down and the drivers side window doesn't close properly, i can put my finger entirely out the window while it's fully closed. Thanks guys, Joe
  12. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/3617079110.html Came across this little beauty. Not a bad looking truck, would be a fun little side project and head turner. Price seems like it might be high but still not that bad.
  13. My personal opinion, as an instructor I get this question a lot, what calibre to use: I recommend 9mm about 99% of the time. If you're a 300lb linebacker that can handle the recoil from a .45 and reacquire target acquisition as fast as I can with a 9mm then by all means, go for a bigger gun. But the fact is, it is unnecessary. 9mm has a roughly 94% mortality rate when fired three rounds into center mass. A .45 has roughly 96% mortality rate when firing 3 rounds center mass. Now, take into consideration the ease of use, lack of recoil and staying on target where every millisecond counts, a 9mm wins hands down. Now, I know there are die hard bigger-is-better fans out there, and they're not entirely wrong, I am just of the opinion that it's much more efficient to use a smaller calibre that is every bit as effective. Now, all that being said, when you're purchasing a hand gun for defense you want three things: Simple, Reliable, Effective. A Glock or S&W M&P are about as simple as they come. You take them out of the box and they are battle ready. Once that system is out of the holster you have no safety to fumble with, and 99.99999% of the time, you will have no failures to mess with. Glocks especially are incredibly reliable and are used by over 40% of all law enforcement agencies in the USA over every other gun/manufacturer out there. There's a reason for that! I've personally stress tested my Glock 19 firing 1200 rounds without cleaning without a gun malfunction (some dud rounds but that's typical/ammunition failure) Now, if you want to talk about pretty guns or target guns, that's something else. But if I knew that in 2 minutes an attack was incoming and laying in front of me were a very pretty 1911 on a table and a Glock in a puddle of mud, I'd snatch up that Glock, shake it off and do work ;) (Exaggerated example of course!) So, in short, my personal opinion: Go Glock, go 9mm. (Or a M&P series)
  14. Woops, just realized I posted this in the wrong section, guess it kinda fits though lol
  15. http://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/3592195049.html It's actually not all that terrible. Just happened upon it randomly while looking for a cheap DD lol
  16. Not my style at all but this seems like a pretty decent deal for anyone local. http://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/3641100988.html
  17. The car seems like it's in pretty good shape, it all seemed tight, carfax reports no problems/accidents. Problem we know of so far is tie rods, two front tires and an alignment. Going to have my mechanic take a look at it whenever the guy's available next week to find out if anything else is wrong. If I can leverage the bad stuff against the price of the car and get it dropped then I may consider it, but as it is I'm not going to buy it at the listed price. So, I'm still looking :o
  18. So far, I know it's a V6, automatic, non-smoking car with no accidents that he "knows" of. I think I'll be able to get a friend to run a carfax on it tomorrow. I'm going to go take a look at it tomorrow afternoon and see how it looks! I'm pretty surprised how expensive the insurance is in comparison to my truck since it's got over 100k more miles and is 4 years older than my truck. It's only about 20$ more but I expected it to be much less! I'll let you know how it goes
  19. What do you guys think about a 139k miles Camaro? Just looking for a fun but more-efficient-than-my-SSS car to use as a DD. I got the idea from another member that just bought the fbody style - http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/topic/80076-finally-picked-up-a-dd/ Would be used for several years hopefully, would let me garage the SSS and keep the miles off of it. I've always wanted a Camaro to play with, seems like roughly 3k$ is a decent deal but I'd love to hear some of your opinions. What should i ask the guy? Would anyone be able to run the VIN through a carfax etc? This is the car in question: http://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/3645257018.html it's been for sale for a while, seems like there could be something wrong with it since that seems like a good price.
  20. This is Reno 911 btw Just in case you didn't know!
  21. Welcome aboard! There seem to be a few of us down in this area in a ~50 mile radius of Chesapeake. Might have to have a meet at the Chesapeake Inn!
  22. http://ls1tech.com/articles/drag-race-monday-sinister-camaro-slaughters-the-dragstrip/?utm_medium=Email&utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_campaign= I think I've fallen in love. One day I'd like to have an 8second car lol
  23. Not gonna lie, I don't hate it lol You've gotta admit, if that were a standard 1500 it'd be a good looking truck. I'd never do it to an SS, but a 1500HD or 2500HD, definitely. minus the decals of course! ;)

    Mpg?

Averaging 15.5 with a mix of city and highway driving. On my longer trips I've been able to average 17-18mpg over 1k miles. I use cruise control religiously and, being the excellent citizen that I am, only ever go ~6mph over limit lol or, whatever the flow of traffic is going.
