  1. I had the gage cluster replaced while it was at the dealer because it went out while driving it over to get the brakes worked on, so that could be the battery problem. The dealer called me and recommended replacing the rotors, pads and calipers. I said they are new with like 250 miles on them they said not GM parts so that could be the problem. I said BS he said yeah I know. My guess is proportioning valve stuck, master cylinder bad (no bleed down though) or ABS Module. They said we can replace it all and see if it fixes it. They want $295 for master cylinder and $200 to put it on. Total BS. I said I will just pick it up. I need suggestions on how to diagnose the bad part. Thanks Kevin
  2. I have an 2003 Silverado SS. The brakes are horrible. The pedal is not firm and the stopping power does not increase as you push the pedal down further which will go all the way to the stop. No lights are on either. I have replace all the rotors, pads and the front calipers. Took it to the Chevy dealer and they said air in ABS module. They bled the brakes and said I was good to go. Picked it up and if was exactly the same. My question is what could it be? ABS module, Master cylinder or something else. Also a side note, when driving sometimes I hear a pump kick on like an air pump. When the truck sits for a while with weight on it ie a boat trailer the battery will go dead in a couple of days. I do not hear the pump running when it is off but have heard complaints about it. Thanks Kevin
  3. Just did my brakes today. 2003 SS: Rears 13" Fronts 12 13/16. The Russell SS Brake Line Kit Part # RUS-672430 WILL NOT WORK the fittings are a different thread pitch on the front and the center section. It will work for the rears only.
  4. The trailer brakes work great. I am comparing the braking power to my old truck. I had a 99 ext silverado with 194,000 miles on it and it had 4 wheel disks on it as well but it stops much better than the SS. Here is my plan: Stock sized slotted rotors, upgraded brake pads and stainless brake lines. What do you think? What color brake pads ie: Yellow, Red, Blue or Green? I think read is heavy duty yellow is Sport. What kind would be better for towing with as little dust as possible? Thanks for the help.
  5. Any advice on this for a front brake kit? www.ssbrakes.com/commerce/detail/index.cfm?nPID=8393
  6. What do you guys think about this set up? www.ssbrakes.com/commerce/detail/index.cfm?nPID=8393
  7. I just bought a 03 SS and I need to get better stopping power. I pull a boat and the stock setup will not cut it. I have looked at some kits but they seem to be 3-4K. I don't have that kind of money for brakes. My question is will a rotor upgrade and pad upgrade improve the braking enough to make a big difference? What products would you recommend? What is the cheapest caliper, rotor pad upgrade? Thanks
  8. Well, I bought it. Sweet truck sucks to fill it up with the good stuff. I love the look, I just picked it up and it was dark before I got home so will have to check it out tomorrow. Does have HID low beams. I want to do a decent brake upgrade pretty quick. What is a good upgrade that is not 3-4K? I would piece together something that works.
  9. I checked the truck out in person and it looks good except for a few chips. I offered them $10500 but he said he had more in it than that he also said that he just reduced the price from 12,900. I am planning on towing a wakeboard boat with it a few times a year is it going to be ok for that. Boat and trailer weighs about 5000lbs. I am worried about how low the truck sits compared to a regular truck. I am also worried about me going crazy and dumping a supercharger and new trans in that thing.
  10. I have a chance to buy a 03 SS with 126,000 miles. They are asking 11,900 for the truck. What should I watch out for? I got to look under the truck when it was on the lift getting the oil changed and it looked clean, not like it had been cleaned but nice. What basic mods should I plan if I wanted to spend $2000 or less? Thanks guys! http://www.mdpmotors.net/vehicledetails.aspx?VID=133996858
