Hey guys my 2003 Silverado SS has the dreaded Front Diff Whine. There is talk about using the 4x4 front diff in our trucks. I know "Maintcon" did it on his truck but it was a full rebuild. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something. I was hoping if I could just grab a 2001 or newer low mile 4.10 front diff, pull off the old 4x4 long axle tube with actuator, fork, sleeve, and shaft. Then just switch in my existing long axle tube/ axle from my truck.....and call it a day.

I know this thread is a little old, but it is a great write up Mainton! My 2003 SS is whining pretty and I was wondering if I could grab a 2001 or newer 4x4 diff and switch out the long axle and tube with my AWD unit in my truck. Is that tube/axle the only difference in the diffs 4x4 and AWD diffs?
