  1. gotta watch out for those 97+ regals, 97+ grand prix, 98+ bonnevilles, and a few others with the GM 3.8L V6 under the hood. Quite a few of them came supercharged and are pretty sick with a little work done. My soon to be old lady has a 2000 bonneville with the blown V6 under the hood it now has about $6k worth of parts in the motor/trans and once the bigger throttle body goes on should be a high 12 sec 4 door sleeper. When I first got my truck all she had was a 1/2" smaller blower pulley, headers, and a tune and she left my 03 SS with out even trying. We went from a dig once and I pulled about 3-4 cars on her out of the hole but by 90 mph she was back to my rear bumper. It put down 273 WHP and 280 WTQ after all the work was done but was limited by the tiny stock throttle body.
  2. their was a 454 SS at the track a few weeks ago it ran high 8s (1/8th mile) not sure what was done to it but it was pretty quick. My girls bonneville was not far behind it on street tires her bonnie ran 9.1 at 85mph next time to the track the nittos are going on and hoping for at LEAST mid 8s. the bonnie will be a bad MOFO once the bigger throttle body goes on it should be low 8's to high 7's in the 1/8th.
  3. ya i still have the stock clutch fan it sux but right now I cant aford to do any mods to my truck as Im jobless and looking. we just moved to Tx because we heard the job market here was so much better then in FL but it doesn't seem to be so. we have been here about 3-4 weeks so far and have found nothing. As soon as we both get jobs and we get the horses my fiancée wants ill start moding my truck. the end goal is to be turbo but thats a far off goal right now.
  4. my truck is AWD so i cant turn my traction control off its always there. what year was the montie carlo SS that you raced? the only years that came supercharged was the 04 and 05 the blower was a option in 04 and standard in 05 then in 06 the montie SS got the 5.3L v8. The only time her bonnie has been to the track with the new motor was on street tires and it ran a 9.1 at 87mph with a 2.28 60' by looking at the mph you can tell the power is there she just cant get it down with the 225/60r16 street tires I'm sure the 3.69 gears (stock is 2.93) and 3250 stall don't help with traction either.
  5. I'm not sure like I said I don't know the area very well but not far from mansfield. Yes I'm sure its a real SS the vin number comes up as an SS as well as the 20" wheels, clading, SS seats and badging. It has the 2-3/4" drue duel exhaust and had the DI/DO muffler with the SS exhaust tip on it so I'm pretty sure its a real SS if not its a dam good copy. Prob my best win was against my G/F's bonneville SSEi with the supercharged V6 we went from a dig and i pulled about 3 cars on her but by 90 mph she was back to my bumper with at least a 20-25mph pull on me when we let off. The only reason I beat her was because she was spinning her tires until about 30 mph. Now with her nitto 555R's, built trans, cam, ported heads, ported blower, LS1 throttle body and MAF I stand no chance even from a dig and with my AWD. She made 275 WHP and 280 WTQ on a mustang dyno (they read low) whitch prob equates to about 300-350 at the crank so its not far behind the SSS with alot less weight.
  6. about 1-2 miles north (i think) of Cooper St. I don't know the area very well we just moved here from Fl. I have seen quite a few SSS's or SSS clones around most of them black though.
  7. I was on I20 here in Tx we were on our way to a bar and a OBS 1500 came up and a stood on it and he left me like nothing. The truck looked and sounded stock except for what looked like a 2/4 drop or so he was ext cab long bed and as far as I know the biggest motor that came in those trucks was the 350 vortec right? It looked like about a 96-98 body style. My truck is stock except for a K&N drop in and a flowmaster muffler but I still think I should have been able to beat him. Its annoying getting beat by everything I come up against in my SS except for a FEW stock 4 bangers. Im thinking about just taking the SS badges off until the truck until it can be a REAL SS.
  8. true the little back pressure that the muffler gives you helps with low end torque but the extra air flow that the open cut out gives in the upper RPM range lets the motor breath. Same is true for headers smaller tube headers are good for low end torque while big tube headers are better for high rpm.
  9. i have a blue SSS and i am in the venus/mansfield area but i dont have any stickers on my truck. we are new to tx so im not 100% sure where austin is from us. if you see me i will be easy to spot for now i still have my florida tag on my truck and no tag on the front.
  10. So am I the only one here that thinks that the SSS is not worthy of the SS badging? Yes I know its a big heavy truck and what not but shouldn't a SS have some balls? I know with some work and money the SSS can be quick but stock its down right slow. I down know about yals kill history but ive been beaten by just about anything ive been up against including quite a few hondas. The SSS is more of a silverado extreme than a SS.
  11. The outside temp was in the mid 80s when it happened. no trailer on the truck when it did it no CEL and it has happened maybe 2 or 3 other times about a month apart each time or so. I have never cleaned the filter a buddy is sponsored by K&N he got the filter for his moms truck then about 3 months later he got the whole FIPK kit and gave me the drop in.
  12. I have a 03 SSS with about 96k miles on it. Most of the time my trans temps barley get over 125* even when I pulled 6000 lbs with the truck. now 6 months later the truck feels super sluggish it almost feels like the throttle is only opening about 75%. I launched it today from a light to get out in front of traffic to merge out of a turn only lane. The next stop and normal take off after the hard launch it felt like the truck was still in 3rd gear then as i gave it a little throttle it shifted into 2nd then 1st real quick and jerked hard in doing so I also noticed my temps were up to about 200*. I know the red zone does not start until almost 300* but it is still higher than normal. The truck is stock with the exception of a muffler and tail pipe replacement and a K&N drop in filter. I was reading in another thread that a dirty MAF can cause trans issues and i know some people have probs with K&Ns causing dirty MAFs. Could this my my issue or could it be something more? Oh forgot to mention the truck pulled a 5x8' u haul trailer from central Fl to the south part of fort worth Tx. It was not very heavy it only had our bed and cloths in it but it was about a 1300 mile trip.
  13. I'm looking to get new radios for both my SSS and my girls 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. We both have factory Bose systems and we both have factory double din radios. We both want a lot of the same features the main difference is she wants a flip out dvd player and I want a double din unit. I think the guy at best buy and I have talked her into a double din unit because of the extra breaking point on the flip out any one here have any more input on the flip out units breaking? what are some pros and cons to the flip outs vs the double din radios? I have been doing some reading and looking around and I think I like the JVC KW-NX7000. I like it for the SD card slot, built in NAV and the price is not THAT bad either. I don't really want to spend that much on a radio but I think I will have to to get the features that I want. Anybody else know of a radio with about the same features for about the same price or less? main things i want is some sort of a NAV system either a SD card slot or a USB slot so i can plug in a jump drive or a hard drive with music on it 7" screen if possible would like it to work with the stock XM ant. would like it to work with the buttons on the steering wheel if i can get all of this for less then $700 awsome but im willing to go a little over that if i have to ,to get what i want.
  14. what do you mean that it doesn't work in tx? I live in florida now but we plan to move to tx with in a year or so. how much boost are you running in your truck and do you have any other internal engine mods? how do you like the kit?
