  1. I wonder if I went with the 28in case magnaflow with a built in X pipe and ran it to the factory location if it would drone like that. Im also a little worried the 28in case might be a little too quiet. The noise isnt what bothers me at the moment its the clapping noise almost sounds like theres a playing card at the end of my exhaust when I get on it which I think is because of how small the current magnaflow that I have on there is. I drive the truck from CT to FL every year and I just also want to make sure I dont get something that is going to drone so bad it shakes the truck. I dont mind engine noise at cruising speeds but the drone that some mufflers give is miserable. Right now I have the exhaust going 2 into 1 before the muffler going into a SI/SO 14in magnaflow and Im also trying to decide if I should put it back to dual inlet or leave it a single inlet and just get a longer SI/SO muffler.
  2. Which DI/DO is it? Theres 2 I think ones a 28 and ones a 24in? Do you think part of the drone is just because its dumped under the bed? Or do you think it wold still drone if I had it exit out the side wheather it be infront or behind the rear tire? Which borla are you going to run? I was also thinking about doing a borla instead but wasnt sure which one I should get. I dont mind hearing the exhaust cruising down the high way I just dont want that annoying resonation drone that makes the whole truck vibrate and sound like you ave 3 15in subs just pulsating in the back seat!
  3. Ya I think im going to give the DI/DO magnaflow a try. I just have to decide where I want it to exit. I like having it exit in front of the rear tire and wouldnt mind keeping it there or I was thinking of running it into the stock location. I dont want to do duals straight out the back so my other thought was to dump it under the bed. And ya cranking the torsion bars down was a terrible idea the truck rode like garbage the shocks that were on it were really bad to so that could have been a big part of it too but with them cranked back up and the spindles and new bilsteins it rides awesome. The bilsteins are a little on the stiff side but its almost a good stiff and they made the truck handle quite a bit better too.
  4. Whats up guys I havent had a chance to get on here for a while been super busy with work and some other things so the truck hasnt gotten to much attention latley but figured it was time to give it some! I just put on new bilsteins all around and cranked my torsion bars back to stock height and put on some beltech drop spindles to go with the drop shackles in the back and it rides so much better. Now I just have to fix my exhaust. Once I put my LTs on and deleted the cats and had a custom 3in Y pipe fabbed up with a SI/SO 14in 5X8 magnow flow muffler and had it exiting infront of the rear tire with the stock SS tip it sounds awesome at cruising speeds and in town but once I get it on it it makes that terrible clapping noise and I just cant take it anymore. Ive pretty much narrowed it down to 2 possible solutions. I have a dynomax bullet thats been sitting in my garage for over a year thats pretty much brand new that I was thinking about welding in before the 14in magnaflow I have now, but theres another part of me that ones to try one of the magnaflow DI/DO tru X mufflers but was looking on some suggestions on what I should do. Im leaning towards the DI/DO tru x magnalow because from what Ive heard on youtube it has a pretty nice deep tone which is what im looking for and I also wouldnt mind if it quieted it down a bit not to much but a little quieter wouldnt hurt! So im open to opinons let me know what you think!
  5. Truck looks awesome. Also wondering what drop you have on it!
  6. I dont think I can run the 14in one because they dont make on that DIDO 3in inlet and outlet and my Ypipe is 3in. So Id have to run the 24in one and my only worry with that one is it will be too quiet. The next worry I have is currently my Y pipe is 3in 2 into 1 now and im kind of worried that if I go to a DIDO muffler with the 3in Y pipe that it might decrease back pressure and I will loose some throttle response unless the internal X pipe will make up for it no longer being 2 into 1.
  7. Ya I know that feeling my current set up will set off car alarms. Definitley not the type of attention I want haha
  8. Ya I feel like its near impossible to find the perfect set up. I was also looking at the borla xr 1s alot of people seem to like those too. But i cant even imagine how loud your truck must have been with those bullets and the cam, those things will definitley attract some unwanted attention!
  9. Thats really good to know. I dont really mind quiet but I still want it to have some grunt to it too. Like one thing I like about my set up now is when I start the truck everyone around hears it and looks and it just sounds mean when your cruising down the highway but I honestly get embarassed to get on it because it almost sounds like theres a thin metal flap on the end of the exhaust or an even better way to describe it is a aluminum playing card flapping at the end of the exhaust tip its so annoying. I wouldnt mind my set up at all right now if it didnt have the terrible rasp. Part of me was kind of thinking that the stock SSS tip might have something to do with it? Or just that the muffler is too short. I must have listened to a zillion different sound clips of every muffler possible over the past few months and I just cant decide what I want to do. Basically im worried that if I swap it out for the tru x one and it ends up being too quiet than I wont like it and then ill be in the same situation. But I know what you mean about the bullets. I had one on my regular silverado with LTs and no cats and dumped under the cab and the drone was so bad it souned like I had a 30in subwoofer in my back seat just resonating it was brutal. You wouldnt happen to have a sound clip of the tru x would you? I know the cam and blower will make it sound different but a sound clip would still be good. Thanks for the help
  10. I was just curious if any of you guys out there that run the DI/DO magnaflow tru x muffler the one with the built in x pipe have any sound clips of it preferably with long tubes?? My current set up now with my longtubes is no cats custom 3in 2 into 1 Y pipe into a SI/SO 5x8 14in magnaflow and I have it exiting infront of the rear tire with the stock SSS tip and it sounds good at idle and when cruising but it has a terrible terrible rasp everywhere else at first I thought it was an exhaust leak but I made sure everything was sealed up and its still the same. So I was going to try that DI/DO tru x magnaflow and just run it out under the bed. It seems like alot of people like that muffler I just kind of want to hear how it sounds with longtubes before I go out and spend the money. I just tried youtube but couldnt really find to much.
  11. Does that NNBS intake manifold have square intake ports?? If so you need NNBS heads to use a NNBS intake manifold. I could be wrong but as far as I know all LQ9s have cathedral intake ports and the NNBS have square intake ports. Im pretty sure a TBSS has cathedral ports like the LQ9s which is why people swap them. Where as I think people that use NNBS intake manifolds swap to L92 heads or equivalent which have square intake ports. Basically if Im correct the NNBS intake manifold you bought wont work with the stock LQ9 heads you will have to swap heads too. The TBSS intake mainfold will work with the LQ9 heads. And as far as an X link im pretty sure you will need one to use the 4 bolt throttle body.
  12. Ya i think ill just try the fuel filter first and see if they can tell me if my pump is good or not, I plan on having slowhawk retune it regarless in the next few weeks. But ya nelson does lock his tunes so I had to buy a stock PCM to have slowhawk street tune it, but I had this same dealership do a crank relearn after I put my LTs on and told them to make sure they didnt flash the PCM and they seemed to do a good job so hopefully they wont mess anything up. Itd be nice to not have to replace the pump right now even though I dont think they are to to expensive, but I drive from CT to FL every winter to race dirt bikes so Id hate to have the fuel pump go out on the way down there so I think if its questionable ill just have them replace it that way I wont have to worry about it.
  13. Ya from what I remember reading it wasnt to big of a job. I have a really good relationship with a dealer down the street from me and Im super super busy with work and dont really have the time to do it myself so I might just drop it off there and have them take care of it. Now say it is my fuel filter causing the issues would that have affected my pump as well to the point where it would be a good idea to replace that at the same time? Id imagine its got to be one of those 2 things or something with my tune thats causing it.
  14. Ya I will definitley look into that. How much of a pain is it to change the fuel filter? I think ive read on here that its not to big of a job. Any thing I should really pay attention to when I do it or anything I have to watch out for?
  15. Ive only had the truck about a year and I personally havent changed the fuel filter yet but that also crossed my mind along with the the fuel pump. Is there really anyway to test to see if the pump is going bad? I have an aeroforce interceptor Im not sure if that will tell me my fuel pressure or not but if it did would that give me an idea on what might be going on?
  16. The throttle body is clean I just cleaned it in the spring thinking that was it MAF is clean also. My mods are Pacesetter LTs no cats 3in 2 into 1 Y pipe with a magnaflow muffler a CAI transgo HD-2 shift kit corvette servos sonnax billet 4th servo and it is tuned. But ive been thinking its the tune for a while. Its got a Nelson performance tune I had him do a tune for my other regular silverado and loved it but I am not happy at all with the one he did for my SS and the customer service sucks over there I email and call with no response so since he locks his PCMs I bought a stock PCM off of a member on here and since im in CT im just going to have Slowhawk street tune it and see if that helps. And as far as the fuel injection system I cleaned it out with seafoam late last fall early winter before I drove to FL so unless it could get gunked up that fast I dont think it could be that either. And yes its my daily driver, and its weird because somedays I dont have a problem at all.
  17. I posted a long time ago probably around last fall about my 03 SS having a random low idle I thought it might be the MAF might have some filter oil on it so I cleaned that and then I didnt notice it for a while. It kind of started to do it here and there early this spring again so I decided to pay a little more attention. Mainly where I notice it is sometimes when I come to a stop in a drive thru or at a stop light my pacesetter LTs rattle on the passenger side frame rail and its kind of annoying so I usually just give it a little gas to raise the rpms up a little and the rattle goes away, but then the next time I stop the rpms drop to around 380 or so, then say when im in a drive thru when I drive up to the microphone and my header rattles ill give it a little gas to get it to go away and then by the time I get up to the window and its just idling the rpms drop to around 380 and it almost sounds like the truck is going to stall. Then Ive also noticed if I drive on a really bumpy road by the time I come to a stop the rpms will drop way down too. Ive had it be so bad that driving through a parking lot with stop signs I almost have to drive with 2 feet because it feels like the trucks going to stall. Anyone else had this problem or might know what it could be?

    Engine Ice

Ive never heard of anyone running it in a vehicle but arent we supposed to run a certain type of coolant in our trucks? The dexcool stuff? I work on bikes for a living and we build alot of crazy motocross bikes and we run nothing but engine ice in all of them. That stuff works awesome, to the point where I was running it in one of my personal race bikes that also had bigger radiators with engine ice and it was impossible to make it over heat and it would not push coolant out of the over flow at all and it was on a very hot day I know the big radiators played a big part in that but I will reccomend engine ice to anyone with a bike, especially a built one. Im not sure about running it in a silverado though
  19. I agree with everyone its never too late. Im at right arounf 90K on my 03 right now and the way I look at it is I plan on keeping the truck for a long time and plan to mod it more down the road when my wallet lets me do more and eventually plan on building the motor and trans, which in that case everything would be fresh. Mileage is just a number as long as the truck has been taken care of!
  20. Ya thats what Im thinking I might be able to sell the AWD set up to offset some of the cost of the conversion. As far as whats needed Im pretty sure its just a different output shaft and tailhousing on the tranny then a 2wd drive shaft and cenver carrier bearing then 2wd wheel bearings. Im not sure if tuning will be needed or not there might be but if it is needed thats not a big deal. Im just kind of trying to lay out my options
  21. Alright so over the past few months Ive noticed its been kind of wet around the seal where the front drive shaft goes into the front differential and then about 2 weeks ago I noticed it was starting to drip more, so I brought it to my tranny guy to have him replace the seal and while he was in there he saw that the housing where the seal goes was cracked it looked like whoever had owned the truck before me had someone replace the seal at one time and whoever replaced it used a screwdriver to try and get the seal out and pryed on the housing and cracked it along with mar up the housing itself. My tranny guy who I had fix it tryed to fix it as best he could by cleaning up the aluminum and replaced the seal and tried to seal up around it just to see if it would work and then let him know how it goes. Well im kind of stuck on what I want to do, ive been wanting to convert the truck to 2wd for a while now, and I know some people will think im stupid for wanting to convert it but I just miss having a 2wd truck and I also feel better peice of mind knowing theres less moving parts under the truck and less things to break. With that said im trying to decide weather down the road to just have him replace the front differential housing which he quoted me about $300 for plus labor and what not or just have him tear it out and do the 2wd conversion. I was basically wondering how the prices would compare between the 2 jobs and Im basically just looking for some more input on what I should do, and im open to pretty much whatever anyone has to say so let me know what you guys think! Keep in mind I dont drive this truck in the winter so AWD isnt important to me Id much rather have a 2wd truck, I dont care about traction issues Im sure ill run into those eventually but ill deal with that when the time comes.
  22. Dont waste your money on an AEM intake. Get a Spectre its the same exact thing minus the filter. The AEM is like $285ish and the Spectre is $140ish, then either run the filter it somes with or what I did was order a K&N filter to put on the tube it works perfect and it was alot cheaper than spending a ton of money on an intake. Throttlebody spacers are a waste of money along with MAF sensors. Get good exhaust like a magnaflow muffler weld it into your stock exhaust piping and the spectre intake or the intake of your choice and those will make the truck breathe better.
  23. Just curious if you bolt up a set od nnbs seats in a nbs truck what do you do about seatbelts since the nbs seats have the seatbelts in the seat and im pretty sure the nnbs seat belts are on the door?
  24. Also just curious what do you have done to your tranny to support 500 horse? Youll need alot, injector size wont help you if your driveline cant support the power your putting down if you have a stout built tranny then disregard that. But like McMahan said you wont have 500 horse with just an STS kit running 10#s of boost. Build a good 408 and run a front mount set up and you will have better luck making the power you want.
