Yep!  She's got almost 87K on it now, so she drives it a lot.  Only very minor hiccups here and there; overall it's been a fantastic truck.  I'm creeping up on 112K on the Intimidator..  just did oil changes and other small maintenance on both trucks today.

So you found another silver birch... do it!!!

    Richard

If I had a place to keep it safe, I would Strongley consider it.

Glad to see you guys are both enjoing your trucks!

  2. Damn, Sorry to hear all of this. Glad you still have it and hope your doing much better.

I saw another Silver one for sale recently and so badley wanted to put it back together.  This is still one of may Favorite Trucks that I have owned.

I loved my VHO but There is just something about that silver birch truck that I can't get over.

If you ask the dealer, allegedly different part.. SS front bumper is # 89045660 , Silverado bumpers are 89025748 (black, discontinued), or 19150310 (chrome)

However.. if you look it up on LMC, they show their same part # for the plain primered bumper to fit a regular Silverado, and an SS.

So I'm betting the difference is just the finish and the metal is the same.

    Richard

You are correct the original metal bumper was in a black e-coating under the SS cover. The standard metal bumper is chrome. The basic metal portion is the same wither its black coated or chrome. This applies to both the front and the rear bumpers.

The only thing you would find on the Standard SS metal portion of the pumper was some strategically placed clear film and some foam inserts to prevent rub through and to help it retain its shape.

Welcome, I think we have more SS's in Texas than anywhere else has :)

You can get a new reproduction grille for about $150 or less depending on where you look; LMC has it for $150 so you can bet somewhere else has the exact same grille cheaper.  A real OEM one will run you about $375+ prices vary a lot depending on source.  It lists for a hell of a lot more.  Then of course you gotta pay to get it painted but shouldn't cost too much any decent shop; it's just basic GM black WA8555 not anything fancy or uncommon.

    Richard

The factory OEM Grills already come painted From GM. The last two I purchased (06-07 style) where around $500 My cost and I had to wait for them to come out from Detroit.

  5. Luis, did you ever get a set made???

FWIW for others looking for this info.

Dutchman can and will make you a set of axles for less than the cost of 1 new axle from GM when they were available. I sent them an axle from this application back in 2011 and had them copy it.

When they ask what it's for they never seem to remember the application and want you to fill out a spec sheet.

I believe my invoice number was 60376 so they can look it up.

  6. Same vinyl head rest as the leather. Auto temp is odd but could have been ordered that way.

Steering wheels is a toss up. I have a cloth bench truck and it has them as factory. But I have seen fully loaded with out them as well.

Mine is also a manual temp.

    06 gmc spring special truck.

  7. That's just plain damn nutty. But I figure if anybody would know, you would.

    Richard

A buddy of mine had a red 06 SS with cloth interior. He went to the dealer and got a print out of the RPO build codes and confirmed it was built that way from the factory.

  8. Actually they did offer a cloth seats as an option on the SS. I have seen a few come up for sale as well as the DEI SS with cloth. They were trying to sell the SS any way they could.

It's clearly an aftermarket leather kit that someone installed.

  9. Wouldn't necessary relate it to black Friday or cyber Monday but like a few others just happen to be the timing. Im placing the order for all the stuff to build my trans up to handle the hp for my 408 build on my project truck this week. Other than that, I sure as heck didn't get out and go to the store on black Friday. That crap is insane and I would rather pay full price. lol

A Lot of that non sense you can get online and shipped for free to your house.

Like the TV's that Best Buy were selling were also on amazon and some were actually cheaper.

Same with the power tools on sale at Home Depot. They have limited supply in store. I was able to get the same deal on there website and free shipping. I don't have to go to the store and hope they are not sold out or drive around town hoping I can find a store that still has some in stock like I did a few years ago.

  10. Jack shit. Wife and I aren't the shopping type. We stayed in recovering from an excellent thanksgiving dinner w/family and friends, watched a couple movies - Green Mile and the original cut of Blade Runner (none of that remastered stuff.)

I did buy a couple new phones that were on black Friday sale through Blackberry's site, but from an even better price on amazon. :) BlackBerry Passport SE's cuz I'm still a BB diehard.

    Richard

I think you have gotten enough Christmas presents this year... lol

  11. If you have any luck obtaining a replacement COA you'd be the first that I know of. Please let us know how that goes.

The label on your door jamb can be bought new still and is not a definitive identifier for an ISS. The RPO code tied to the original build data can't be faked though so it's no problem to confirm it's legit without the COA. RPO code SSI is the Intimidator package. This will be on the SPID (service parts ID) label in the glovebox, which if someone really wanted to go to the trouble, could be faked - but looking up the VIN through Compnine or at the dealer, the RPO list attached to that won't be faked.

The COA's value is mostly as a collectible item, combined with the truck, somewhat increasing value of the truck just from an originality standpoint. My opinion, anyway. Not debating whether your ISS is real, have no doubt that it is and it simple to confirm as I said.

    Richard

That door label can no longer be purchased through the dealer. Although it was available at one time It has been discontinued. and as far as I know there is no more stock either...

  12. The Cali emission ones do. It's kind of a cross between a regular silverado one and an ss.

No they do not. I live in CA and work on these regularly. I just sold mine to Someotherguy. I also have another members truck in my shop.

The VHO and the V Max is the same way.

Now the cats used are differnt between the 49 state federal and the CA 50 state trucks.

Also re certified catalytic converters are illegal here in CA. They must also be the correct catalytic convertors or correct replacements.

That being said. They no longer test tail pipe emissions on these. It's just a plug in obd test along with a visual check...
