  1. Thanks!! I'll look into that... I thought all of the listed groups were speed shops, or had their own models of programmers. Sounds good!
  2. Hi, You'll love them! I have the same exhaust system. Easy to install and sounds great!! Start ups rumble, idle is deep, cruising is mellow (no cabin droan) and lastly - WOT sounds awesome!! The only thing I would change is the exhaust tip. Gets fouled easily. I'm looking for a double wall type to fit in there. I think the single wall tip gets hot and water spray, tar and road film sticks to it. For cleaning, I use kerosene to remove the tar and grime. Then a quick SS polish.... Looks new again, but does not last. I hope this helped, :-)
  3. It would be nice to get a performance tune on my truck. BUT where I live in Michigan, there are no establishments to take the truck too. Unless of course I want to drive over 4 hours south to Detroit. Unless you know of a performance tuning place in Grand Rapids. Which is still over 100 miles south of me... Not all folks live in major metropolitan areas, or have access to speed shops... Regards, :-)
  4. I "assume" that going faster than the speed rating of your tires, refers to my post of doing 140mph+ (my estimate). Just so that you and others know, my tires are Hankook Ventus ST 275-55/R20 "V rated" tires. Which means they are rated for 149mph.... Here's a link - http://hankooktireusa.com/Psearch/Search.aspx?pageNum=1&subNum=3 And don't worry you/we/me will not be losing a "rare" one... Regards, :-) BTW: My truck is in my avatar
  5. Hi, I have a 2005 VHO that I drive daily as well... I've upgraded the exhaust (Corsa dB), Air induction (Volant CAI with lower scoop), MAF (Jet Performance), and Hypertech Max programmer.... Truck has better throttle response, and sound (no drone at freeway speed). Gas mileage dropped from 13.4 mpg (average express way/in town) to 13.1 mpg.... I assume it dropped because of mods, but I also like to use the loud pedal alot... ;-) I love the sound of the Corsa exhaust and tune ability of Hypertech. Truck will do 140mph estimated (4,200 rpm in overdrive) with no problems. Will take to drag strip next year after winter season or buy the Hypertech PAC. I also added a raised hood (2" rear facing) like the old Camaro/Corvette/Chevelle air induction hoods. I hope this helped. :-)
  6. Hi Don, Well I did it... Bought the 6000K Diamond white Xenon HID's for the low and high beam lights. They are bright!!! Even my wife noticed the difference. On coming drivers blink their lights, thinking I have my brights on... I tried to take pictures, but they didn't do the lights justice. I also used the painless wiring system to get ALL 8 lights (Low beams, High beams, Fog lamps, and Driving lights) on when using the high beams... One thing though... The original 145 amp could not keep up with the draw on the electrical system. I first updated the 8 gauge cable from the alternator to the little red battery box to 2 gauge. Didn't help the lights still flickered at idle when wipers, heater fan, stereo were on. I bought a new High Output alternator (125 amps at idle and 250 amps at 1,200 rpms) to replace the old alternator. No problems now! Just a heads up. Might try the Xenon's driving lights now... Stock alternator, according to GM, was rated at 80 amps at idle and 145 amps at about 2,100 rpms... I hope this helped,
  7. Thanks Hank! That is what I was looking for. Experiences from folks with regard to cross drilled vs slotted vs stock. I did look at the Baer Brakes as well... I'll check out the Alumasport dick package... Take care, :-)
  8. Hi Don, If I may butt in.... The Stainless Steel version of the Gibson exhaust cat back system is running around $620.00 or so... The Aluminumized versions runs around $455.00 or so... I found that the S.S. version of Gibson, Borla, Magnaflow, etc use 409ss for the pipes and 304ss for the muffler in most cases. Some manufacturers also offer 409ss mufflers. The 409ss is a better quality or grade of stainless, and usually carry higher lifetime warranties. However, most muffler shops don't carry or will charge more to weld 409ss systems because they required stainless filler wire. The 304ss systems are what most car manufacturers use, and the 304ss can be welded with the common mild carbon steel wire. The weldment isn't rust resistant, but does not cost more to weld. However with that said, most of the above cat back systems are pretty much bolt on. Just a few clamps and hangers, and your good to go... So welding shouldn't be an issue. Corsa's dB system is all 304ss, with no aluminumized parts. It looks good, costs less initially, but will show some surface rust over time. I have not had my system very long, nor have I driven through a Michigan winter yet. I'll make more comment on that next spring... As for now, I driven the truck with the Corsa dB system through heavy rain, highway, in town and some dirt roads (about 4,000 miles worth) with no cosmetic issues. Just wash and drive... I hope this helped, :-)
  9. Hi Don, So sorry about the link... I'll try again. http://brakeperformance.com/index.php I have 72,400 right now on the brakes. Based on thickness testing I did (micrometer), I should be about 60% thru them. So I have a lot left, and 100,000 miles should be doable. I was just wondering what kind or type I should go too?? Maybe staying with the GM original type of brakes is the best solution... GMPP thru my local dealer offers upgraded brake pads and rotors as well... As for the brakes. That was my question as well. Slotted vs drilled vs bigger, etc. Ceramic pads vs Metallic pads. I've read the ceramic do not create a lot of dust on the rims, but they do take a little time to heat up to get the best braking performance. So ceramics would be a poor idea in Michigan's winters??? I don't really know. Looking for experiences from folks here. I hope the link works better this time!!! :-)
  10. Hi Dardy, Great question... I looked at several versions and manufacturers a few months back. I looked at Borla, Magnaflow, Corsa, Gibson, DynoMax and Flow master. I also went to you tube and heard/saw many different types. It's all of matter of personal taste. Each of the manufacturers above have their own web sites, expanding the information envelope. I went with Corsa dB. Cost, sound and install were my list of priorities... I'm very happy with the Corsa dB cat back exhaust, and never looked back!!! Great sound, no highway drone and excellent seat of the pants feel... Once you make your choice of exhaust system, do a search and locate the cheapest prices... Good luck and I hope this helped, :-)
  11. Hi Don, I've been thinking of these: http://www.amazon.com/03-05-Silverado-Foglights-Conversion-Diamond/dp/B004MAZAOA/ref=sr_1_30?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1312246568&sr=1-30 I'll let others weigh in as well. I know that the "brightness" is based on the temperature scale. starting at 2500K and going up to 10000K. The light the human eye "really sees" is different. Hence the lower scale bulbs (2500-3500) look yellow. 5000k - 7000K will look white to light blue. After 8000K or so the lights will "look" purple. You tube has some good vids by people who have made the changes. That's why I'm looking at the lights in the above link (6000K)... It's a matter of taste for brightness/color options.. I hope this helped, :-)
  12. Hi to all, I completed a quick search, but found no topics for the "best brakes" for a 2005 Silverado VHO. My budget would be $600.00 or less... Name brands preferably. Dealer installed GMPP brakes, Ok.... I do have drums in the rear. I will do a Complete brake repair. Disk/Rotor and pads, Drums and rear pads. I would like everything new... and same manufacturer. I live in Michigan, but could or would order online... Any help appreciated :-) This is what I'm currently looking at: http://brakeperformance.com/cart/index.php?ad=Exit-Offer Any advantages to cross-drilled vs, standard rotors?? Ceramic vs. Metallic pads?? If any discussions are already in this forum, just point me there... Thanks for your time in advance, :-)
  13. Hi Don, I did look at the Borla's.. but they do cost almost twice as much. Also from You tube, some stated there was a drone effect in the Silverado trucks. I can't comment on that. I'm glad they work for you and the Impala SS!! As for my Corsa dB's... I've had them on for over 8 weeks and love them. Quiet on the road or highway, but when you hit the loud pedal - They're GREAT! So far everyone loves the sound except the wife... Oh well, can't please them all... Take care, :-)
  14. Year of truck: 2005 Make: Chevy Model: Silverado LS/SS B4V RPO package Engine: Vortec 6.0L (N) LQ9 Transmission: 4L65E Gearing: 3.73 in 14 bolt Diff -Traction controlled Air intake: CAI - Volant #151536 with Front cold air dam/scoop #35853 Cat back exhaust: Corsa dB (sounds like sport muffler) #24279 PCM tuning: Hypertech Max Energy #32000 Torque converter: Stock Transmission mods: Stock Other mechanical modifications: Mr Tail Light kit - Lo/Hi beam, Fog and Driving light Kit. All 8 lights are on when High beam switch is activated... Might be illegal in some states. Replaced stock 145 amp alternator with 250 amp alt and 2 gauge wire leading from the alternator. Body mods: Black Front and Rear bumper parts painted Silver Birch. Also painted black Spoiler on tailgate. Hard to keep paint on for more than a year in Michigan... I hope this helps someone. Not many reviewing these posts.... BTW - The Corsa and Volant upgrades were easy to install... As was the Hypertech Max re-programming
  15. Hi Folks, Well after waiting a month, I finally received the Corsa dB exhaust system... Wow!! Everyone on this site was absolutely right. It sounds great at idle or when hammerin' down the road. At cruising speeds, (55-75MPH) ABSOLUTLELY No drone at all !!! Man am I happy!! It was easy to install as well... The truck had some exhaust mods made before, but installation was still right on the button... Thanks to everyone for their input... Now I need a radar detector! wink, wink.... Take care, :-)
