Silverado_George
Hey guys just wanted to gather some input as to how durable are the motors on our trucks.. I find it hard for me not to floor it or get going whenever somebody pulls up next to me on the highway, I raced a ws6 the other day and got beat by half a car i maxed out at 110mph, my basic question is as dumb as it may seem that is it bad to constantly be doing this to the engine? Reaching high speeds, I feel good because i beat someone on occasions but then i feel bad because it's a limited edition truck and i don't usually abuse my engines in my trucks like this... SuperStock
You should be good to go on all the WOT pulls you want, just monitor your oil level.
someotherguy
The weakest (major) link in your truck is the transmission. But I could say the same even if it was a plain Jane 4.8 Silverado... Richard
FASTDIESEL
You're not going to hurt the 6.0.

I figured, thanks for the reassurance man, don't think I will be doing any pulls I want the truck to last me as long as possible, I am predicting that I am going to be it's last owner, though it's a big stretch considering the truck has 35,000 miles on it currently The weakest (major) link in your truck is the transmission. Richard Yeah I figured that as well, these trucks with a 4L80E would have been a better combo but I know that's strictly for HD's You're not going to hurt the 6.0. Nice to know, I knew the Vortecs in general are very good engines that last a long time if taken good care of, maintenance wise, my father has a 97' Silverado that he's had since 02' when it had 43k on it, it now has 172k miles on the odometer and still runs like a dream with no major problems George
Aldofashow
Im a little over 200,000 miles now Ive always done oil changes on time runs great but I feel when Im doing wide open pulls nowadays that my head gasket might let some coolant push past the gasket cause my engine light flashes only at full operating temp never when its warming up still I dont have cats and I notice coolant missing after awhile of driving Im swapping motors soon Ill know more when I break it open and Ill say Ive been driving this thing hard since 2006 the thing is unstoppable and no engine work ever just oil changes and knock sensors still factory sealed engine

Not a drop of oil between 5,000 mi. changes. It gets a lot of highway miles, as well as a bunch of HEAVY towing miles (cruise on, trans kicking down on every hill!). Engine hasn't missed a beat. One of the service 6.0's has over 300K (lots of drivers, zero pampering).

That's a testament to how much these engines can last and people (mostly Ford guys) say that Silverados are no good lol, I think mostly on the electronic side is where chevy fails, sensors and whatnot
FASTDIESEL
We have about 20 GM full size trucks in the work fleet. VERY few problems out of them. Most go to 300K mi. with no issues (that's usually when we start thinking about trading). I've put 337K on the last one '07 2500HD Classic Dmax, and 458K on the 04.5 before it. One water pump on each, a set of u-joints, one injector wiring pigtail, some suspension pieces after 250K. No other issues. They're a great piece of equipment. I've been in Dodge Diesels the last 22 years, now I'm rockin' an SSS. Not as fast as my diesels, or nearly as good on fuel, but slick, quiet and comfortable. I AM getting old! :-)
