Good torque converter

Recommended Posts

So I'm starting to save towards one of FLT's level 5 4l65e's and was wondering what you guys think would be a good converter to go along with it. Thinking of a 2800 or 3k stall, just not sure who makes good ones for these trucks. Thanks in advance

You pick the converter based on mods done to the truck and future mods. If you just pick a stall you can hurt your performance and have to replace it later again.

I love my precision industries converter. For instance I have a built 408 with TVS 2300 a 4L80E and use a 2800 converter. It basicaly acts as a stall of 3200.

Save up for a good trans cooler. I would recommend one with a fan that you wire to the ignition, and a trans temp gauge. You will have to drill a hole in the pan and weld a bung for the sensor for the trans temp gauge or get a Aeroforce gauge that lets you swap thru 100 different parameters of the PCM. It plugs in directly to your OBD II port and you done with that gauge.

Well right now it just has the headers and mid pipes, planning on heads and cam after I get the transmission lines out. What kind of stall do you think would be best for those mods? Also who to go to when I plan on getting it as well as the trans cooker. I'm not familiar with many places that make stuff for these trucks so any recommendations on where to buy would help greatly.

Pretty easy to install I just ordered a yank 3600 pts for my truck trans is getting rebuilt got the cooler. For it also mines awd headers and a cam. I had a yank in my old truck and it was amazing got the pts since I wanted to be able to tow with it also. But if your not going to tow at all I’d go with the ss yank

Install is fairly easy for the cooler.. there is also a member here (Time2kill) that sells brackets and hardware for a more factory clean install... if you use the search button theres a good write up on how to install it..

Ill snag a pick of my cooler and post it here with my phone for you. Install is easy. As far a s a converter goes, that all depends on the type of cam and heads you run, you go with too big of a stall and you can hurt performance. there is a loose style converter, and a tight style converter. The loose converter will act like a manual car slipping the clutch as it will spin and you will hear the truck and it will then start moving. it has alot of rotating mass before you get going, then you build heat. A tight converter doesnt spin as much and you wont have to wait to for the converter to reach the stall point.

Well I was planning to get a 228r 112lsa cam with a set of precision engineering stage 1 heads. They sell both of those as a head cam package from Texas speed. And I was looking at the yank ss series converter. Just not sure on what stall speed to go with, I was thinking 2800 or 3200 just not sure what would be best

Ive had the Yank SS 3200 with a FLT stage 5 trans towed 2 Snowmobiles 5 hours away and back ended up breaking the output shaft beating on it on the way to work one day and now have a Yank Pro Truck series 3200 spend the extra couple hundred cause when I sent my first converter in they said to remove the hitch with the SS 3200
