Buddy of mine has a 2005 VHO ext cab one owner low mileage 67,000 truck with sunroof basically all stock in really good shape. Im familiar with the SS but pretty ignorant about VHOs. He is asking 13500, I cant find any other VHOs nationwide to compare it to. Is this a reasonable price or is he too high or low?? He has all the maintenance records and dealer paperwork. Seems like a good deal just not sure.

Thanks for the help..

They'll most likely bring similar value to the SSS, but it would depend on all the goodies they have. I could only find these.

There was another black ccsb 4x4 VHO on Craigslist closer to Texas but I can't find the link. :/ you could always go on autotrader and cargurua and search 05-07 trucks with v8 and eventually one will pop, it might not have the badging, but I've seen a few that have the N vin or X I think one had? It's a little frustrating some trucks have the VHO wheels but the 4.8 in them.

Being clean and low miles is more of a price boost, than the VHO package. Low miles is a $1500 boost, the 6.0 is about $1K over a regular silverado. So maybe $9K? An SS has the looks to go with the performance, a VHO looks like every other truck in the parking lot. Being a 13 y.o 2wd probably isn't a big deal in texas, but around here you wouldn't be able to give it away.

There is no such thing as a crew cab 4x4 VHO. Only extended cab 2wd 04 and 05.

The VHO and the VortecMax kind of get lumped together(since they're essentially the same thing). you could get 2wd or 4wd and extended or crew in '06-'07.

I don't know production numbers but I have to think the VHO is a lot more rare. I've never ever seen another truck with VHO tags in Arizona but have seen quite few Vortexmax trucks. VHO trucks they didn't even sell nation wide. Not that it matters too much with my truck, It's been bastardized with a 4l80 and turbo kit.

'04 was texas only, and I'm showing production @646. I think thats for sierra & silverado, but I'm not sure. '05 was available nationwide, I know there were considerable more, but I don't have a VHO VIN to run to see for sure. I've seen a prob a dozen come through the sales in the last few years, almost none had the badges. I don't know if they were never installed, got stolen, or the owner just peeled them off, but I've seen a lot more without than with.

I used to work I a detail shop and they had taken out a booklet that has the VHO in ccsb 4x4 configuration, not z71, but 4x4. I Craigslist constantly and see them posted from time to time, I'm positive they were available in 2006. When I get back to town I can try and post a picture of the book I'm talking about.

edit: I see what you're saying now, VHO and Vortec Max being different, my mistake lol, read to fast think too slow haha

Thanks for all the great info. My buddy flaked on the deal.

It did get me thinking I would like to have a mostly stock 2004-2006 silverado SS AWD in blue or black no red. Absolutely no rust.

I'm in Texas but will travel for the right deal - Hit me up if you know of anyone who is selling one that isn't ridiculous money.

Just remember as you start shopping SS's that only 2003-2004 are all AWD, 2005 had optional RWD though almost all I've seen are AWD. For 2006, you could get RWD only. The RWD trucks are essentially the same minus of course the transfer case and front differential, but also got the beefier 9.5" 14 bolt semifloater rear w/drum brakes, vs. the AWD coming with the 10 bolt and discs. 2006 also got the "HD" hood/grille setup which some prefer the looks of.

The Vortec High Output option was first introduced in 2004 to a limited market (mainly consisting of Texas and several surrounding areas); it was available nationwide for MY 2005. It was available for both the Chevy and GMC 1500 series trucks. This special edition package (under option code B4V) included several options previously not found on the standard 1500 model, most notably the LQ9 6.0 L V-8 engine (the same used for the Silverado SS, the 2005-2006 GMC Denalis and the Cadillac Escalade). The LQ9 motor was rated at 345 hp (257 kW) at 5200 rpm and 380 lb·ft (515 N·m) of torque at 4000 rpm, which was the same specifications shared in the SS models. The B4V package could only be ordered on extended cab standard box 2WD trucks. They were all built at the Canadian assembly plant and were equipped with the Z60 High Performance suspension package, in addition to the M32 = 4L65E transmission, GT4 = 3.73 rear gear, and G80 Gov Lock as standard equipment. The 2004 models were equipped with the standard 10 bolt 8.625 rear end. The 2005 models were upgraded with the larger 14 bolt 9.5 rear end under RPO option AXN. The package also included one style of the newly introduced GM 20 inch wheels installed from the factory. This marked the first time the LQ9 engine was available for a two-wheel drive application. Unlike the previous years with the SS Package, you could order the interior combination in anything from basic cloth to fully loaded. There were also more exterior color options available with this package.

In 2006, the Vortec Max trailering package became available. The Vortec Max package was added to the option list with an array of similar features and new badges, and at its core retained the LQ9/4L65-E powertrain. However, the Vortec Max package differed from the Performance edition in that it also came with a variant of the Z85 Handling/Trailering suspension, as well as 17-inch wheels and tires under the option code NHT on 4x4 models versus the Z60 High Performance Suspension and 20-inch wheel and tire package of the regular B4V 2 wheel drive Performance Edition. This was because the Vortec Max package was intended for max trailer towing, while the Performance Edition was intended more for customers who wanted the Silverado SS mechanicals without the visuals of the SS. It was also made available (in addition to the extended cab) in the light duty 4 door crew cab models. For the first time it was also available in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive on both the Silverados and Sierras, with or without the Z71 package.

The newest Vortec Max performance package introduced in 2006 on the GMT900 includes a 10,800 pounds towing capacity.

there is an 04 GMC VHO coming through the dallas sale next week, and an 04 Chevy VHO coming through the austin sale coming up in the near future. Both bank repo's. I'm guessing they're going to go in the $3K-3500 range.

Also to add to my last post, there were 311 GMC VHO's in '04, so 957 total for chevy/gmc.
