Parking brake probably just needs adjustment. The auto-adjusters often don't work well and it doesn't take much for the parking brake to not hold on the rear disc trucks.

Part # for lower lenses just look 'em up on any dealership online site. Most of the aftermarket ones will end up leaking but a cheap new set will get you past inspection at least. Real GM will cost you around $50/ea

So glad Texas is doing away with state inspections starting 01-01-18.

My county here in NC is doing away with the emission part of our inspection. The mechanical end of our inspection test is mostly a revenue generator for the inspection shop and there are plenty of places where you can get you registration inspected, which means that there is plenty of junk running the roads.

The Texas plan is dropping the safety portion of the inspection but we will continue to have emissions testing in the counties that are already doing it (16 currently.)

Honestly while on one hand the yearly safety inspection has been a bit of a joke, I think it caught at least a few very poorly maintained vehicles and required them to be fixed.

Commercial vehicles will still have a safety inspection.

Even the guys who "inspect your registration" around here will fail stuff that the police will notice and question so yah, it does help keep junk at least marginally safe.

I don't completely condemn the shops that aren't looking real closely at vehicles. For years they were allowed to charge just $11.00 for an inspection that would take them at least an hour to do, by the book.
