Cam/Headers/Efan Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Finally able to save up some change to put into my motor in my 03 SSS - looking at Xr275hr cam, ls6 valve springs, dynatech super max heads mid pipes no cats, and not sure what Efan yet. I don't know much so any intel would be huge! I currently have k n cold air, throttle body, and Wheatley tune and looking to give her little a little more juice!

Although not a very high lift cam, I'd look into installing hardened pushrods while you're in there. And for that cam, I think you'd also benefit from a higher stall torque converter (3000 stall range?) E fans, keep it simple/reliable and pick up a set of 05+ Silverado/SUV from eBay or your local scrap yard. They're a direct fit to your radiator. You'll need an e fan wiring harness too. Sounds like a solid build plan.

Thanks for that speedy input bro! Going to scan eBay / yards round town for Efan that's an awesome tip- torque converter deem necessary to get everything out of cam? Do you have any other suggestions for type camshaft. And I think I have pretty good ballpark on pricing right now, but if you don't mind giving your advice on what I should be spending on each that would be sick!

Larger converter for sure, unless you go with a much smaller cam OR you don't care about your 0-60 performance. Hardened pushrods, stock 05+ efans and harness and Id suggest a bit more spring than the LS6's. Something like a PAC1218 would be much more suitable and keep the valvetrain a bit more under control.

I agree with monster on the stall and pushrods. Efans you can pick up cheap at a salvage yard from a grand prix or anything with dual fans in those years. I paid $100 for mine and just had to use a relay and wire it to the PCM. The stall and beefing up the tranny should be a big priority as this heavy truck will only benefit from that. Remember Horsepower is addicting so always leave room to grow. You don't want to be swapping out parts later that you can use now.

Brian Tooley Racing seems to have built a pretty legit reputation in the LS world. As you can see in my sig, that's what I went with for my recent build. Fair prices, one stop shop for all your engine hardware, and great customer service. I'm not preaching BTR, just expressing my good interaction with them.
