vin decoding to get an original radio

I think he wants to know which radio came in his.... there were three options if I recall. A single cd with tape deck, single cd no tape and the 6 cd in dash changer were all options......

2003-2006 AM mono-FM stereo-cassette (opt 9R0)

2003-2006 AM mono-FM stereo-electronically tuned receiver (opt UM7)

2003-2004 AM-FM-stereo-6 disc CD (opt UC6)

2003-2004 AM-FM-stereo-CD-navigation (opt UM8)

2003-2004 AM-FM-stereo-cassette-CD player (opt UB1)

2003-2004 AM-FM-stereo-single CD (opt UB0)

 

These are the 6 options that were technically available for 2003 silverados, but I've only ever seen UB0, UB1, and UC6 in an SS.

sellers on ebay have said that the plugs are different for the available radios.

I don't want to buy one and find out it won't fit.

 

Any capable car audio shop would be able to help you with that easily. You could find one you like and then call around to see if it'd fit your vehicle. Or use a site like Crutchfield which is pretty accurate with that kind of stuff.

They make adapters for just about every radio to connect aftermarkets to your truck.

I buy quite a few from Metra (metraonline). http://www.metraonline.com/vfgapi/vehicle/76456?

They have a nice vehicle application guide that will tell you what connectors you need.

But if you have the Bose system, Onstar, Sirius and all that, then you will need the controller/interface for all that.

I've done quite a few installs, but sent my SSS over to the car electronics installer shop to have my Pioneer installed.
When I got looking at all the modules, interfaces and adapters it needed to keep most the stuff I wanted, it made my head hurt.

For the Pioneer 6100NEX, the amp for the Bose, the Sirius radio interface, the steering wheel interface and all the other adapters, plus install ran me $1300.

Could I have bought everything and installed it myself for a lot cheaper? Yes.
But more than likely I'd have got into it and discovered I forgot something or something I didn't know I needed.
Then wait for parts, Tear it apart again and make it a bigger headache.

Some things are better left to the guys who do it everyday.
I dropped my truck off in the morning and picked it up at noon.

 

If you don't have the Bose system and aren't worried about all the other stuff, you'll probably be ok with just the adapters.

Also look at the SPID service parts identification label in the glove box. All your option code are there and can see your radio code and match up to a radio that would work if you want to stick with a factory radio.

Swimwear.. is tight... and all up in the business.. just implying a double din radio will be like swimwear, you'll get it on/in but youll have to squeeze it in.. lol
