I tried to replace the rear axle bearings by myself.. something whent wrong and I cant figure it out.. on a 2002 chevy silverado 1500 5.3l v8 I jacked up the rear end, placed the truck in neutral, took the neg battery post off, then opened the diff plate to let it drain. removed brakes, then took the rod out of the diff, took c clamps out, removed bearings and replaced bearings, (9.5) oil seals, and brakes.. I noticed that the little bar didnt want to slide back in so I had to turn the drive shaft and re-align the hole to get the bar in and put the 8mm bolt back in.. I put the rear plate back on, filled the diff.. and heres where the trouble started, I put the truck back into park with the battery disconnected, and the rear tires are still spinning, I connected the battery and fired up the truck with the rear end up and while in neutral the tires roll, while in drive the engine speed goes up and the speedo shoots up to 30-40mph, and while in park I can move the rear tires with my hand... what did I do wrong? was it the little bar that goes in the middle of the differental gears? or did I mess up something by putting the truck in park while the neg battery post was off?.... please help
