edgarss44
My question is will this y pipe fit our trucks exactly? Or will I need to modify it a bit? The pick on there website looks like it merges both sides to one 3in pipe instead of two pipes on the SS Trucks? If anybody has any pics of there y pipe on there SS that would help alot! Thanks! psualumni
The SSS equipped standard with the LQ9 6.0 did not have a 'Y' pipe. The mid pipes between the exhaust manifold and the 'muffler and pipe' exhaust are two separate pipes with integrated catalytic converters. Other GM trucks with smaller displacement engines (5.7 etc.) of the same generation are equipped with a 'Y' pipe where the exhaust from both exhaust manifolds merges together into one pipe and then bolts to the exhaust. You could use a 'Y' pipe from a smaller displacement truck, but it would choke the exhaust flow from the LQ9. You would have to also switch out the rest of the exhaust system to match the single 3" pipe from the 'Y' pipe. Can you do it? Yes. Will you have to also then replace the rest of the exhaust system? Yes. Converting from the standard LQ9 6.0 setup to the smaller displacement setup is not a good idea in my opinion. poopnewton
If you want something that will be a direct bolt on to a stock exhaust you need to shell out the big money for some ARH headers or I think Kooks makes something that's a direct bolt on too. Colorado Speed sells both and used to have better than average prices the last time I checked.
edgarss44
OK! Thanks guys for answering my question! I want to add headers on my truck but don't really want to modify it to much! I'll look in to the kooks /ARH headers.
psualumni
If you go with Dynatech headers I have a set of used mid pipes (catless) I want to unload cheap. The mid pipes will bolt to OEM exhaust. Sent from my STV100-1 using Tapatalk
