eberhama
We just got an '05 silverado 1500 in, it was unknown miles, figured the cluster was burned out. But this is what it shows, never seen that before. Is it a programming issue? or ??
someotherguy
I didn't know about it beforehand but a little googling turns up that it's one of the failure modes for these clusters, but I guess not nearly as common as the stepper motor failure that happens to so many. The gauge repair people service them for this particular problem; one dude is advertising the service on ebay for $70. His ad acts like it's a simple reprogramming of the mileage so maybe the issue is something corrupted the nonvolatile memory? I saw a few posts where the owner took it to the dealer and the dealer ripped them for a whole new cluster. It does also appear this is one of the problems covered under the gauge recall, for the trucks that were still eligible - though I'm guessing by now all would no longer be covered due to age? Anyway looks like some of the dealers tried to weasel out of it since they couldn't read the mileage (duh) even though they had recent service records on one truck that showed it at far below the mile limit for the warranty. BTW if you google it up avoid the link to gm-trucks.com seems to be loaded with f'ing pop-up malware. 3ZS1SS
Haven't seen that before but mine has done this a couple of times. This is what mine would do when I would first get in it. Then when it started getting cold outside I wouldn't have any display at all until the day warmed up. Sent it in for a rebuild and all is good now.
