?? On hydroboost swap

Recommended Posts

Just got done swapping the booster on my truck. I was under the impression you kept the stock master cylinder. But now its at a wierd angle. Is that a problem? Or no? Do I need to use a hydroboost m/c?

Yeah my hydro boost bought used came with a master cylinder. It appears to be the same exact shape as the SS m/c. In fact, I ran mine with the stock m/c but recently swapped to the m/c from a 2500 that came with my set up. Do you love the difference in braking ?!?!

The vacuum booster m/c runs up hill, and the bottom of the tank is angled, the hydro one come straight out, and is flat across the bottom. I was just concerned this might cause some kind of a problem.

Got a question as well, installing my hydro boost unit now, and I see that the nut that holds the hydro boost unit to the mounting plate (with the 4 bolts) hits the top of the hole the old booster went through.

Did anyone else grind this area open or just crank it down and hope it bends enough to fit?

I ended up trimming about 3/8" off the top of the hole, fit just fine after that.

I think part of the problem was I bought this from someone who parted out their SS, and noticed the studs were bent a little, most likely from the crank-it-down method.

Another question: What did you guys do with the proportioning valve? Now that the MC mounts further back, it doesn't line up with the lines. Did you just leave it hanging?

I have a proportioning valve with a bracket that attaches to the master cylinder studs. Like the picture attached.

2 lines from the master cylinder go into it, 2 lines come out going to the ABS unit.

But the bracket hits the hydroboost hoses and the valve doesn't line up with the brake lines any more.

I guess I'm lost on what you are asking.... I literally pulled old vacuum booster off and pedal then put Hydroboost on mounted master cylinder as is. It's basically plug and play.
