Parking brake/backing plate

Looks like ill be taking on the task of changing my parking brake and backing plates due to the fact that $400 is quite the quote from the shop. Ive come across several write-ups on the process and hopefully wont run into to much trouble. Can anyone tell me the shoes and backing plates that are most recommended for our SS's? Ive heard the ACDelco ones are good quality when it comes to the shoes but not to sure about the backing plates. Wanted to check with some of you guys on here before dropping the cash. Thanks

I just installed raybestos shoes and Dorman backing plates. I went with this bc summit racing sells them and I could add them to a large parts order u made. They seem to be of high quality imo. They do offer 2 piece backing plates if you aren't wanting to remove the axles. Mine was apart anyways so I sent 1 piece.

I just sent in an order for the one piece backing plates and new shoes, both ACDelco brand. I didnt know we could use the 2 piece backing plates on our SS's. If thats the case i may go that route instead of going through the headache of removing the axle, even though it doesnt appear to be to tough. Does anyone know for sure if the two piece backing plates are compatible with out SS's?

I really am not positive, but I don't see why not. It's a 10 bolt rear, but I have z06 brakes on it, so I can sat for certain 100%.

The 2 piece are much easier since yu don't pull axles, just chop off the old ones. That's probably the toughest part.

So the two piece backing plates are fantastic, the only fuss is trying to get them around the ebrake clasp but definitely worth it if you want to avoid the hassle of pulling the axle. Sure enough though, my luck, I am working on getting the new brake shoes in place and just when I think I am in the clear..I snap off a small bolt while installing the brake shoe retaining clip. Well now it looks as if Ill be pulling the axle anyway to drive out the bolt I snapped off. Oh well, maybe next time Ill take it a bit slower. Either way, for future reference for those who are taking on this task rather than letting the auto shop charge you $400 for the task...the OEM part number for the 2 piece backing plate is 12476287 and the Dorman part number is 924-222.

Sorry to hear about your tough luck. Thanks for the follow up and part numbers.

No worries, I always seem to get myself jammed up on the simplest tasks with my vehicles. Case and point....the rear driver side axle came out real nice after I played around with the c-clip for quite some time but now as I work on the rear passenger side, the axle barely pushes in far enough to expose the other c-clip. Is that normal? The axle should push in slightly to expose the clip a little like the opposite side. Maybe I need to turn the drive shaft a bit or something? Any ideas?

Thank you for the extra help, Im hoping I didnt get the spider gears all spun around in there in the process of working on the c-clip. The driver side rear axle went right back in and sets in place, so I think I should be good but I just need to work with getting the c-clip back in. All the videos make it look so much easier than what it really is haha. Ill keep working at it, I am in the process of finding the right brake pads in the meantime. Speaking of my luck with this vehicle...ACDelco sent me the wrong brake pads, as fate would have it. I know the topic has been discussed on here but can anyone direct me to a good link to pick up some rear brake pads? Im now 0 for 2 with ACDelco in receiving the correct parts. I have heard that the Hawk pads are really good as well as the Yellow Stuff pads. Any word on the Bendix pads or even Power Stop pads?
