Jpeters09
I purchased my 03 SS in January of 15' and it has always shifted a little slow, it hasn't gotten much worse since I flushed it and added lucas tranny stop slip to it. But the 2nd to 3rd shift is still not very healthy. I'm wondering if anyone has rebuilt these transmissions? I thought about maybe putting a very mild shift kit in as well when I have it all apart. I need suggestions on what rebuild kit to purchase, and any advice to which shift kit to install, or if thats a bad idea. I do body work for a living, but I have a very skilled mechanic friend who will be helping who has rebuilt a few transmissions before. Thickcajun
If it were me i'd pay to have it rebuilt...How many miles? i did the same thing as you and found out that flushing them when you have a good bit of miles is not to good...I went with a transgo shift kit also upgraded to the vette servo alto 9-Direct Clutch kit...the list goes on just plans on what your doing with the truck... Downeast Johnny
Welcome to the site Jake. Bryan has some good advise there. You could add a good trans cooler also.

I disagree on flushing is bad. The problem isn't necessarily the flush but probably the lack of maintenance by a previous owner. As long as you change filters and flush on a regular regimen they will last. People think trans fluid doesn't wear out. The heat breaks down the oil which is why you change. Most people driving is considered severe but nobody maintains. If you drive city stop and go, pull a trailer or drive in temps over 90 it's considered severe..... Which honestly is probably about everyone out there. I would also "upgrade" to dex 6 when you have trans rebuilt it is a far superior fluid that Gm started using around 05 or 06. Don't forget to have your cooler flushed out in radiator or you will have problems......

What Bryan was talking about is the common thought that, if a trans hasn't been flushed regularly, you can dislodge a bunch of bad crud by flushing after years of not flushing. Most all of us agree that regular flushing, from day one, is best. Thanks for the tip about Dex 6.
