cmoney23
Hey guys. Got in my truck today drove for 15 minutes. Went in a store and came out to start my truck. After started my brake pedal went all the way to the floor and I got a service brake system message? Any clue what it is and now how do I drive it with no brakes
jddmj
Sounds like the master cylinder. My truck did that not to long ago.
cmoney23
Looks like a busted brake line. Its squirting fluid out under truck when pushed in
cmoney23
I can still drive home and use my parking break right?
A_FUrious
Where did it break? I've heard these truck have the worst lines for busting. I was actually considering the SS upgrade for all the lines. I really don't want to pull the bed tho. I dunno if your EBreak will be strong enough to stop you over 30mph.. Sorry to hear, hope you make it home ok.
cmoney23
Yeah I limped her home. not sure exactly where the break is but when I push the pedal down theres no resistance and fluid shoots out under drivers side door
90zxdriver
sounds like one of your hard brake lines that runs along the frame rail to the rear brakes.
cmoney23
Yup that's what I'm thinking. Tow company wanted $75 to bud her on a flat bed. I just drove it 5 miles to a shop using the parking brake and down shifting. I'm just waiting on the phone call.
Downeast Johnny
Just replaced all my steel lines with Stainless. Not too bad a job. Two companies that I know of make the rear feed lines in such a way that you can install it without removing the bed. (I did that and it worked pretty well). Those two companies also put a union in the line that runs from the ABS module to the right front wheel. That line would be real close to, if not impossible to instal in one piece. The brake system light will go out once you get the system repaired and properly bled. I bled mine with a Motive Power Bleeder. kissfans03ss
Gm sells the lines now for around $125.00 dollars.
Downeast Johnny
Gm sells the lines now for around $125.00 dollars. My ABS module to left front line blew on my truck. I called the dealer and was quoted $85.00 for the one line. I was quoted $75.00 for one of the two lines that run from the junction block at the Master Cyl. to the ABS module. (That is two of the 5 lines on the truck). Those lines would be OEM replacement. This era truck is notorious for corroded steel lines. I figured that the $315.00 for a set of stainless steel replacement lines was well worth it. My dealer was either ripping me off with their quotes or yours was offering a pretty good deal. skolman91
I think GM lowered the price since they know they fcked up with the crappy brake lines and wont recall it, i have a friend who said he got all the lines from gm for around that price.. Can get stainless kit from those 2 companies off ebay for about $240 shipped, i have my truck torn apart right now infact doing this whole job, me and johnny have been disscussing it for awhile now..
