kirks1stss
Hey guys I managed to smack into a tree with the back of my SS. Obviously I'm going to need a new one. My question is, do our trucks require some special made bed or will a regular old Z71 or 4x4 bed fit? Let me know something guys. Thanks a bunch
GI.SS
Yea that'll work. You will just need the body cladding off your old one. Possibly fixing what's busted on yours because finding replacements isn't easy at all
kirks1stss
OK awesome. Thanks!
1BAD2K
Any fleetside bed is gonna be the exact same. What might be cool is to find over of the super rare full composite beds that were made by Pro Tec. The tailgate looks especially cool imo, with the embossed chevrolet across it. EXGM
Yes it was an expensive option that didn't last long. Kind of like quadra steer they were neat ideas way ahead of their time. I wouldn't be surprised you see composite boxes come back to save weight for cafe someday. It was sold as will never rust or dent so you didn't need a bedliner. levilz
I've been washing mine twice a week this winter to try and keep the same thing from happening to mine. It's a pain in the butt, but worth it.

bassmaster
the composite tailgates look like ass imo. less is more, and a clean, flat shaved gate looks way better. a lot of avalanches have the raised letter and i
jsanders347
Reminds me of the 70s and 80s gates. I kinda like it.
1BAD2K
Haha yeah I like the gate too. Definitely a personal preference item...anyways, I've seen many trucks with those beds for sale for sub 3000$. Buy a truck, swap the bed, clean it up and make some money on the deal! The bed weighs 50 lbs less than our steel beds. That is considering the tailgates as well. The only problem I've heard of is that on dark colors, it was noticeably wavy looking down the bedsides. mambamarl
i have a black 03 with the pro-tec bed & embossed chevrolet tail gate. when i first bought it i didn't know about the composite beds, when i was looking the truck over i noticed different shapes/curves on the bed side panel, at first to me it looked like it may have been damaged before but then leaned it had a pro tec bed. it does seem to have different shaped bedsides but does not look wavy to me in black, almost a custom look compared reg. steel beds. the one thing that worries me is that the bed is so rare and not replaceable. i'll try to post some pics if interested
