SSmoothSilSS
Ok I'm working on this, because I have a 2003 Silverado SS and like the 2006 and 2007 honeycomb style but I didn't want to have to change to a HD type hood. Here it is. I bought a new 2003 Silverado SS Red grille off of ebay and a used 2006 Silverado grille with black honeycomb. This is just a mock up not all the way done. I have some attaching to do and a little more cutting. I've already install the lower duct grille and center lower grille. Lower grilles with foglights. I will post more pics when I install it. I will be in out of town until the end of next week so I won't get to it for a week. NipRing
This is exactly what I've been wanting to do for a while now. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
1BAD2K
We should've traded lol. I like the 03-05 gray diamond style better.
powell
I didn't know the main grilles were transferable otherwise I never would have sold the bumper grilles. Crap! We should've traded lol. I like the 03-05 gray diamond style better. Want to trade? Haha
NipRing
The upper portion of the 06-07 grill always looked to short to swap to me. I didn't think they could be swapped. But i'm glad I'm wrong.
SSmoothSilSS
I will have step by step picture when I'm done, you will need the 2007 grille off a 2006-2007 Silverado regular truck or Silverado SS grille of the same years. The SS grille cost a lot more, you should be able to fined the regular Silverado grille in a wrecking yard fairly reasonable. They come in black or grey. I paid $52 for mine. I would buy the color your going to want to reframe from any painting. There are some aftermarket grilles on eBay but I'm not sure if they come apart like the stock grilles. SSmoothSilSS
Well after mocking this up, I found several difference that I didn't see before. The newer center piece from the 07 sticks out about an inch farther than the stock 03 grille. and the 07 grilled will not go all the way to the hood edge. So I've changed plans and cutting out the stock grille and trying to adapt the honeycomb to the 03 grille.

SSmoothSilSS
I have some random pics, of the direction I'm going. 1. The 2007 lower grille area is just a 1/4 off so it will not fill the bottom gap. Plus to use it so the bowtie area is match it is bent (formed) or (curved) in the wrong direction and maybe able to be heated up to fit properly. yet I have not tried that yet. Because I have 2 2007 grilles I'm taking apart to fit in the bottom and top part. The top part does not fit all the way to the top corner so I'm going to adapt extra honeycomb to cover the hole upper grille area. Still have no figured out how to attach the honeycomb pieces yet, working on it. It looks to hard to cut the honeycomb and adapt it back to were the mesh was cut out, so I'm sanding down that area and will paint it black and attach the honey behind it. I did take my grille apart to do the 2007 insert you don't have too. Center piece comes apart and I cut out the mesh section. 2007 grille I cut off the and trimed so they are flat. This is just a mock up for the bottom section and I'm working on the top section.
powell
I wonder if any other GM vehicles have the same honey comb pattern with larger pieces?
SSmoothSilSS
I looked at other cars grilles on ebay but they didn't give the dimensions, and the honeycomb looked alot different. Plus I did want to be buying other grille and wasted money. You can buy some honeycomb type sheets, like this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mesh-Grill-Universal-ABS-Plastic-Honeycomb-Euro-Sport-Design-Sheet-46-5-x15-5-/151167657089?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item23324b6481&vxp=mtr but I didn't like it and it would match the lower grille area that I already purchased. SSmoothSilSS
Update, ok I had to wait for another donor grille and found one at another wrecking yard. In my area there are not alot of 03-07 Silverado's at the local wrecking yards to find the honeycomb grille's or even the 03-04 type. Anyway I'm still waiting on my other 07 honeycomb grille to show up for the top area. On the bottom area I wanted to have the honeycomb as flush as possible with the grille outer trim instead of this, I wanted this, Which will look like this, and the grey trim ring will be gone. So I needed to cut more out of the mesh area to take that away. It will look like this when put together. next post.
SSmoothSilSS
So I cut the bottom section all the way out. And once I attach the honeycomb it will be flush with the Red Trim. My other grille should be here in a couple of days then I will work on the top part and figure out how to attach the honeycomb to the center section. COST SO FAR. ONE NEW RED GRILLE $180 EBAY TWO DONOR 03-04 GRILLES $100 TIME ABOUT 7 HRS. SO FAR. SSmoothSilSS
Sure, still a work in progress, I will edit this thread when I sure what works. Using your own OEM grille, you don't have to take it apart like I did if you want the trim around the edges but if you want to delete the trim you need to take it apart. So after buying a couple of 2007 Silverado Grilles, you can only use the lower area to fill the voids of the 2003 grille. The bottom of the 2007 will cover the bottom of the 2003 without having to add more honeycomb. But the top area of the 2003 I'm going have to use another bottom section of the second 2007 grille to go on the top part and add more honeycomb. Which I use the top part of the 2007 grille for the donor honeycomb. Because it doesn't cover completely the upper area on the 2003 grille. (Pictures soon of the top part.) So its looking like 2006-2007 honeycomb grilles, using the bottom area for the 2003 grille area, your best bet is to go to the wrecking yard and try to find two damage grilles for cheap, up here wrecking yards still want $40-$50 for damage grilles. And not easy to find. Edited November 14, 2014 by SSmoothSilSS (see edit history)
