Who needs cylinder head help?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Alex i am currently attending SAM Racing in Houston TX. I am over half way thru the cylinder head class and have been all the way thru the block class. I will also be starting CNC in Sept. What does this mean. If you want to buy 243s, 317s, 862, 706, L92 heads, well i can CNC, valve job, mill, angle mill, cutt valve jobs. I see a lot of people swappign heads and intakes and wondering why they loose low end power. I can answer pretty much all your ?s and if not someone here can and it will help me learn along the way. I can do majority of the work for free, so if you have any ?s about a set up or some work done just pm me. Thanks and lets build some HP

Not to sound like a butthole but as a machinist myself I would not send a set of my heads out to someone just learning how to be a machinist for a free port job unless they put something in writing that they would replace my heads if they messed them up. There is a lot of way to set a work shift wrong, set a tool wrong, miss load something, or start a program on the wrong line and crash. I've seen it and done it. lol.

Well not to sound like a butt head but I will guarantee that any ls head you send me will outflow and most important outperform 99% of what's out there. I am very confident about working on cylinder heads and I have no problem signing ppapers. Just out of curiosity poopnewton what valve job and valve angle would you do on a 243 head?

I was going to ask you what angles you guys use for 823's

I had a local shop do mine and curious to see how close they are

I have 317 heads and I don't care to take this conversation any further with someone who has never even ran a mill before. Let whoever wants to send their stuff to you do it, I wouldn't.

Probably should have included this right away. sam racing stands for school of automotive machinest. We do everything in house except cut cranks. In the first month we learn how to operate all the machines. Ex. Mill, laith, boring bar, line hone, cylinder hone, balance cranks, cylinder head machine and so on. If someone wants I can build an entire lq9 with 550hp probabaly under $2500. I assure you if you talk to me on the phone you will have no problem sending me your stuff. Thanks guys

on the intake I would do 38top 45seat and 64bottom. Exhaust would be 38/45/58. Intake valve would be 45 with a 30 back cut and exhaust would just be a 45. That's for a daily driver, if you did limited daily and track I would do some stuff diffrent.did they do any work on them and any flow numbers? Edited by 03SSSAM (see edit history)

I hand ported then with guidance from Brian Tooley and had the machine shop do the valve job. I can't remember what the cuts were at or where I put the paper with the info. I will have them flowed before I put them on over the winter.

thats a good head, should flow 350 to 370. be carefully when blending the seat to the runner. You want your venturi to be closer to the bottom of the seat. It should be .200 smaller then your valve size.

I have a brand new set of 243s. And you're telling me you would port them for free? I paid quite a bit (for me anyway) for these. How could I be sure you wouldn't mess them up or even steal them. Don't get me wrong, I'd be very grateful if you could port them at no cost. But sending out a set of heads to some I don't know sounds kinda risky. Know what I mean?
