Shop Install Prices for 3/4 Kits

So I picked up my DJM 3/4 kit with new shocks (thanks norcalSS) and I've got a few quotes from our local shops in town to perform the labor. When I first asked for a quote, I was only looking to install the Belltech 2/3 kit and the quotes for labor only was $600 - $740. When I told them I have the DJM 3/4 kit, the new cost for labor went to $965.

I'm still waiting on a couple other quotes but am wondering if this is a bit off. Most of these quotes estimated ~8 hours to complete.

Any thoughts on if this is fair?

Definitely get a few quotes from places around there. If I were gonna pay a shop to install it for me I'd go to reputable place that has installed lots of lift kits on 4wd Chevys. Because it'd give me piece of mind that they are familiar with the torsion bar setups. Then secondly shop around for prices.

But in all honesty if I didn't have the tools I would prefer to put that installation $ towards some tools and learn to do it myself.Taking out the bolts from the hangers is the toughest part unless you have power tools then it's a breeze.

I got a deal on my kit for about $700 shipped, 3/4 Belltech sp's, and rear DJM swaybar, and did it myself and paid just for alignment.

8 hrs is a lil much, 5-6 for this install is in line.

How much did you get the kit for??

$1,000 is a pretty normal retail price for a DJM 3/4 kit. Its grinding all the rivets out of the stock hangers what takes up so much labor time. Of course anything under $800 would be a great deal. Do NOT! pay over $1,000 though.

Thanks for all the input. Purchased Tony's kit so that'll give you an idea on the kit cost. The shops I've contacted are all reputable and perform lifts and drops. Going to call them again to firm up the estimates.

I was thinking of doing the rears myself, and having one of the shops perform the fronts. Only worry is those stinking hangers. I couldn't install the shackles without the hangers could I? I've also heard a few people dropping the fuel tank in order to install. Just looking to save a few bucks if the rear is feasible by myself.

Dropping the tank is easy and so is grinding the rivets off. Get your behind under her and do it yourself! I know you don't want to, but $1000?!?? For install... That's just screams buy some tools and take your time. Even if you have not the slightest clue, that's why we're here and can literally walk you threw every bolt and nut.

^^^^^^X10000

It's what I've been screaming the whole time.

I know some people don't have tools or space but for 1k I'd buy my own tools and find some space if I didn't have either.

The hardest part for me was taking out the rivets simply because I only used a dam angle grinder to cut them off, yes an angle grinder. But like I mentioned if you don't wanna deal with that part do the rest and go to a shop to have them punch out the 6 rivets on each side and install new hangers and that shouldn't cost to much.

If you do decide to tackle this when removing my rivets it tried grinding them. I see why people complained about them. Then I used an air chisel, literally took me like 10 minutes. And I also had to drop my tank to get one or two of the new bolts in.

Its all about the right tool for the job. If you don't have air tools or at least a tool box with some big wrenches I wouldn't tackle it.. If you got some air, yeah you could knock her out in a day. I didn't have air so I paid to have mine installed. Your torsion bars will be locked into your front A-Arms so tight it'll be a pain getting them out. Unless you have a lift or air! Its easy getting your keys out of the torsion bars or atleast mine were. I tried doing it and that's the issue I had.

Sounds like someone needs to come help me out :) . I would really like to do as much as I can myself, its gives me a good piece of mind and knowhow. I just don't have the tools to make it a bit easier.

This is all good help. I'll keep you posted on what happens.
